to secretly get rid of our kitten and tell the DC that it ran away?

Have had kitten for around 6 weeks now. DC have wanted a pet for a long time and I gave in and got one for them. Cats are easier to deal with than dogs right?

Well today, I have had enough. I had have to scoop 3 lots of shit out of the litter box and there was a piece of shit on the floor that must have come off her paws and which means that the whole house, and sofa is now covered in cat shit germs Envy puke!

It also runs up the curtains which are now all pulled. My leather --look- dining chairs have scratch marks where it keeps jumping up the back of them and it has pulled up the carpet on the stairs.

DS (6) is constantly chasing it round the house with an incessant cackle (over excited, not cruelly, the cat loves him) which does my head in and keeps taking it upstairs to lie on his bed.

Last week, it has a runny arse and I still have the wounds where I had to bath it, not before it spread kitty shit germs everywhere again.

As a side note, I also suffer from OCD. Not 'a bit' but actually diagnosed.

I love my DCs to bits but they also love the kitty a lot. I am not sure I can put them first this time!

WIBU to find a good home for it and tell them it ran off into the forest and I couldn't find it

I declare it to be the jape of the season.

sleepydee9 · 27/09/2016 13:37

I feel sorry for the kitten, the OP sounds horrible and definitely shouldn't have any kind of pet. Surely the RSPCA would've been able to see she was an unfit cat owner when they screened the family? This is very disappointing.

It is probably the way it has been treated that is giving it loose poo. Anxiety causes those exact behaviours in cats - scratching and scenting everywhere, frequent toileting etc. Her comtempt and the general family behaviour is probably upsetting it. The first few months in a cats life will have life long consequences, it needs to be treated well, loved and socialized correctly. For that reason i hope it goes to a Cats Protection or similar ASAP and gets rehomed where it can be loved properly so it's development isn't harmed.

Poor kitten, and stupid woman. Poor kids too, my DS was a similar age when we got kittens and he would've been devastated to lose them. A few years on and they still love each other to bits, one of them is his best buddy, she snuggles him every morning, plays fetch and runs to the door everytime he gets home.

Sat here with my ten week old kitten and a very sad face.
It's not that hard work.

scarednoob · 27/09/2016 13:54

also, "leather-look" dining chairs? they sound as awful as the OP.

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 27/09/2016 13:57

Haha

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 27/09/2016 13:59

Why have the OP's unpleasant "strops" been deleted? Doesn't she even gave the guts to stand by what she said?
Pathetic state of affairs.

Soubriquet · 27/09/2016 14:00

MNHQ deleted them as she was saying some pretty nasty insults Grin

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 27/09/2016 14:02

"bumsexatthebingo

Last she hilariously implied she was going to dump it by the motorway. Fantastic banter hmm"

Hmm indeed. How very revealing. So that is the sort of person she is. What a truly nasty thing to say.

Pighorse · 27/09/2016 14:11

I think you are getting a rough ride here op. You have made a mistake and a big one but if you can't cope you can't cope. The kitten is better off rehomed if it's making you unbearably unhappy for both your sakes. Oh and you are not a total cow you are just someone who made a mistake.*
^^this.

Pighorse · 27/09/2016 14:13

Oh - I didn't RTFT.
If there was talk of motorway dumping of kitten then I take back my previous post Hmm

ilovesooty · 27/09/2016 14:14

I struggle to see how the goady and unpleasant OP is getting a rough ride personally.

Pighorse · 27/09/2016 14:17

The 'rough ride' comment was made by a poster near the start of the thread, when the OP was still reasonable!

Giratina · 27/09/2016 14:19

How many personal attacks do you have to have deleted before MNHQ consider a ban anyway? OP's posts have most definitely not been "in the spirit of this site".

Wolfiefan · 27/09/2016 14:19

My old girl lived for 19 years. Pets are a long term commitment. They do pee and poo and sometimes scratch. They get ill. They need flea and worm treatment. They will sometimes vomit. Generally in your slippers.
You should only get a pet if you are totally sure you want one and are committed to its care.
Pets are not disposable. OP sounds vile.

Jonsnowsghost · 27/09/2016 15:11

If I'm guessing correctly the m25 comment may be in reference to the recent spate of cat killings around that area..Hmm

I hope the poor thing is rehomed

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 27/09/2016 16:04

also, "leather-look" dining chairs? they sound as awful as the OP.

That's a bit shitty and snobbish to be honest.

ilovesooty · 27/09/2016 16:06

Yes it is. There's plenty to dislike in her behaviour and attitude without bringing her furniture into it.

mycatwantstokillme1 · 27/09/2016 16:21

"leather-look" dining chairs? they sound as awful as the OP.

Making a comment like that makes you sound pretty awful yourself.

RubbishMantra · 27/09/2016 16:30

"All you crazy cat ladies - you do realise that if you tragically died at home alone and were not found for a while, your 'fur baby' would probably start eating you"

^^ I would prefer they did, rather than them die as well. What would I need with my lifeless body, if I was dead?

I think all your grins and "humorous" remarks about getting rid of a living, breathing being are what's getting people's backs up. Also referring to your kitten as "it". And referring to your MH issues, as if it absolves all blame for the situation that you are in.

So what's your plan, Saggy? have you rung around any animal re-homing centres yet? RSPCA have a PTS (kill) policy for animals they cannot find homes for. Celia Hammond is a good place to start. You can also use google to find local cat rescues.

However, I suspect this advice too, will be blanked...

RubbishMantra · 27/09/2016 16:42

Oops, my bad. I missed your post where you "joked", (what japes!) that you are going to dump a baby animal on the M25, the favoured area of the cat killing spree.

pregnantat50 · 27/09/2016 16:49

I am happy to offer the kitten a new home if you are seriously considering it. I am looking for a rescue cat at the moment to give a home to. Not sure of your location though, message me if you are interested.

I am used to cats and will happily endure the growing up kitten phase.

Slightly off tangent, but can I just point out that fish (an alternative suggested by some pp) are not an ideal option for someone with germ-related OCD. Fish require partial water changes to stay healthy- which means that once a week or so you are going to need to plunge your hands into the water they poo in and hoover up the faeces.

HalloToJasonIsaacs · 27/09/2016 19:00

Can I recommend Daphnia? I need to go and buy a new mini bottle of Evian to top mine up but that's the only thing I've had to do for months.

myusernamewastaken · 27/09/2016 20:17
