I know everyone has different taste, so it may just be me butt seems time I see a baby name thread in active there's a massive likelihood I'll

What do you mean by trolled? People may ask opinions about names when they arent expecting but that doesnt mean they aren't planning children or day dreaming about having another child.

MermaidTears · 23/09/2016 14:02

I think she means because of the shockingly bad names people come up with

DerekSprechenZeDick · 23/09/2016 14:04

The most trolled section is MN in general lately.

Baby name trolls are easy to spot and sometimes even funny.

Queenbean · 23/09/2016 14:06

There is a baby name troll who comes on and says things like "what do you think about Colin?" Then everyone piles in and says its outdated / cute / good family name / needs to die a death etc and then the poster dripfeeds it's for a girl.

Or she picks a name associated with a different culture and says she wants to name her white baby that and then let's all the "I've never heard of that name so it must be a yoooounique spelling it's horrible don't use it"

It's really bizarre. Oh great, you got people to give their opinions on a name! Well done you! You must have been plotting it for years!

LouisvilleLlama · 23/09/2016 14:41

Yes Mermaid that's why. I just can't believe them.

And Queen that's what I don't understand if they are trolling, what are they getting out of it, I get other trolls like sex feeling a bit pervy getting women to talk about sex, the horrible ones like Olivers Army are emotive and to upset/ shock, but baby names I don't see the angle

I kind of do see what they get out of it . The whole 'Let's see how far I can push it and still be believed for a laugh' different people trolling for different motivations than the grief and sex trolls

Queenbean · 23/09/2016 14:52

And also the "foreign / yoooouuunoque" names bring out some hideous racism

NoncommittalToSparkleMotion · 23/09/2016 14:55

I love reading that section because I love names but genuinely can't imagine someone saying, "Well I can't use Lily, everyone on MN says it's too popular."

Or,

"OMG, Aurelia? Why didn't I think of that when I asked, 'what do you think of Emily?'"
