To buy the same present for children sharing a birthday party?

DC has been invited to a few joint birthday parties and I've always bought the same present for the birthday children to avoid one feeling like they have been given a better present than the other.

Was caught out once when the birthday children turned out to be siblings, but apart from situations like that, I always thought buying the same present was the norm. The parties are whole class parties where I don't know the parents and DC is only young so still chooses presents that he would prefer instead of presents that his friends actually want!

DP has only just realised that I do this and thinks it's weird to get the same present for each child.

Completely normal, especially if siblings so they don't get jealous of each others. Not necessary if friends as they're unlikely to open at the same time, but still absolutely fine.

Its normal unless one of the child has a particular football team they support and you buy them team stuff or the other has a particular interest that the other doesn't.

For recent shared teen girls party I bought them branded smellies - different brands but same prices and products.

seems fine to me. id normally but same thing different colours maybe, or different board games etc, in case they bring them into school ir playdates to avoid confusion.

Depends on if your DC knows both of the children holding the party. If mine was invited by one child, and the other was a cousin of said child that mine had never met, I would probably just buy a present for the child that had invited mine. If it were two children in my DC's class, and I knew DC wouldn't have been invited by one of the children if they had had their own, single party, I would probably buy a present for the friend that had invited mine and, say, a box of malteasers for the other.
