To think my DD's name is not that unusual....

Her name is Imogen Mary. She is 12 years old. Mary is after my mum, Imogen, well, because I think it's lovely. She has friends called Chloe, Grace, Vanessa, Victoria ((Tori), Layla, Lola, Bethan, Emily etc. I was just looking at threads recently and Imogen never comes up and she said to me today, "Mum, why did you call me Imogen?".

Imogen was on my shortlist

Are you not bothered about being identified?
I thought that too, giving friends' names then relatives' names, please take care OP and report one of your own posts to MNHQ and ask for the thread to be deleted.
They don't do it if someone else asks, it has to be the OP.

Wouldn't bat an eye at Imogen but would be quite surprised to hear of a young Vanessa.

TragicallyUnbeyachted · 18/09/2016 20:51

There are loads of Imogens around. DS (11) would have been Imogen if he'd been a girl but I nixed it for DD1 (8) because I felt it was too popular (she has a friend named Imogen at school now).

HeCantBeSerious · 18/09/2016 21:13

DD has an Imogen for a friend. She's a little madam. They're both 7.

firawla · 18/09/2016 21:22

When I was at school (im 30) we had 1 Imogen and it was an unusual name then but these days you hear it loads!

AngelBlue12 · 18/09/2016 21:24

I have an Imogen (12) and her best friend is also an Imogen!

Passmethecrisps · 18/09/2016 21:26

I know a 3yo Imogen and I love it. It may be on the "list"

Bathsheba · 18/09/2016 21:29

I feel so sad.... I know NO Imogens and I love it

2kids2dogsnosense · 18/09/2016 21:41

Imogen is a beautiful name - I wanted Imogen Margaret so I could use DS's nametags for her school clothes as it was the same initials for our DD but DH didn't like either so she has Another Name Altogether plus one as her middle name and I hate mine.

2kids2dogsnosense · 18/09/2016 21:41

*plus mine, not plus one

sleepy16 · 18/09/2016 21:44

I know a few Imogen's, beautiful name.
2 of my daughters have names that no one has (at least in the school).
I don't ever hear my name anymore (children) but was very popular in the 80s.

Member251061 · 18/09/2016 21:44

It's not at all unusual. I know lots of Imogen's aged between 1 and 75 years.

katemess12 · 18/09/2016 21:46

I love it.

I have a cousin who is due with a baby any minute now (actually, I think she's overdue at this point), and Imogen and Mary are both names on their list if it's a girl. I love both. Immy is adorable, and Mary is just wonderful and so underused.

katemess12 · 18/09/2016 21:46

Oh, I also went to school with an Imogen. However, she went by Gen, not Immy.

Pleasemrstweedie · 18/09/2016 21:57

My DD2 is an Imogen. When she was born it was not a popular name, but I think it had a resurgence after that.

Chopstick17 · 18/09/2016 22:25

Lovely name. I only know of Imogen Stubbs the actress from Truly, Madly , Deeply.

rollonthesummer · 18/09/2016 22:28

I adore the name-it's beautiful. It sadly sounds terrible in my local accent so we decided against it.

SavageBeauty73 · 18/09/2016 22:34

Imogen is my second favourite girls name. I prayed for another girl to call her that but had twin boys.

I think I properly acknowledged the name when I read Jilly Cooper's book with the same name.

Binglesplodge · 18/09/2016 22:41

Scores of Imogens round this way: was your dd perhaps just asking how you chose her name?

Foggymist · 18/09/2016 22:47

I hated my name for a while when I was 12, since about 18 I love it. It's perfectly pronouncable and well known but not one you hear every day, and it's a name most people say they like. Tweenagers are weird, ignore, she'll get over it :)

ImogenTubbs · 18/09/2016 22:54

I love the name! (Evidently) It's on my list for DC2 (due to arrive May 2017)

Fintress · 18/09/2016 23:00

If I had had another daughter she would have been Imogen, it was on my list 25 years ago. It was quite unusual then, more common these days. I still love the name.

WorraLiberty · 18/09/2016 23:06

This thread is well strange.

I'm actually waiting for the OP to post her address and telephone number?!

I know 2 Imogens by the way.

I really didn't like the name when I first heard it but I love it now.

Ditsy4 · 18/09/2016 23:09

It was on my list. My daughter has a friend called Imogen and she went to Uni with one too.

ample · 18/09/2016 23:24

Imogen is beautiful.

I chose my all time favourite name for my DD. I love how it looks on paper, the sound of it and how much she suits the name. I couldn't ask for any more than that.
I've lost count how many times she has asked me why that particular name. I know she likes it but who knows, maybe come the teen years I'll hear otherwise.
I hope your DD will embrace her name as she grows Smile.
