eBay!

First ever Aibu!
Ok so I sold an item on eBay on Friday, it was a last second bid but then not paid for which annoys me in itself as they were clearly on line. It's not an expensive item and only went for £5 but still irritating having to chase up.
Baby woke up early this morning and I was just using time whilst she sat feeding to write all the address labels. Got to said item and still not paid for so just typed quick message saying hi, just checking you still want your item. Nothing rude at all. I got an instant reply from the buyer ranting how dare I contact her on a Sunday morning, I have woken her up and kept her baby awake who has been up 6 times in the night, I am very rude to message her etc!
I have an eBay app on my phone and I don't get alarms going off when I get a message, I just expected her to see it once she woke up. She didn't pay incidentally. Was i bu in asking her after 2 days if she still wanted the item she had won?

A bit. eBay sends reminders itself after 2 days. You can't post on a Sunday so I'd have left it til Monday.

londonrach · 18/09/2016 07:22

No but sounds like shes had a bad night and taken it out on the first person she cam across which was yourmail. No you not being unreasonable. Hopefully she pays soon.

Wormwoodm · 18/09/2016 07:29

Yes that's a good point. I know I can't send today. I was just sorting it as only baby awake so had five mins to do some eBay sorting before older two got up etc.

YANBU. People who do not want to be disturbed by their phone should change their settings at night.

NisekoWhistler · 18/09/2016 07:35

Wow what a rude cow! Just ignore her, clearly taking a bad night out on you.
Some people seriously though, she was so in the wrong

YellowDinosaur · 18/09/2016 07:39

Yanbu.

For what it's worth she may not have been online when the bid was placed but used an automated bidding site like auction sniper so don't get irritated about that. She shouldn't have snapped at you though.

Wormwoodm · 18/09/2016 07:40

It just makes me laugh, she was able to bid on the item in final seconds and then not checkout. then she was able to reply to my message with a lengthy rant about how rude I am and how dare I do this to her etc, but still not pay again. I wouldn't have messaged her at all had she just checked out?

OP posts:
tibbawyrots · 18/09/2016 08:06

I wouldn't have messaged her. I have my settings so if she hadn't paid 4 days afterwards, the non-paying bidder process starts automatically so if she doesn't pay at allshe gets a black mark on her account and many sellers block people with 2 or more black marks for non paying, from buying from them at all.

tibbawyrots · 18/09/2016 08:08

Plus as a pp said, she may have used a snipe service to bid and not have been online at the time.

notarehearsal · 18/09/2016 08:09

I sold a small item for 99p. ( originally bought for £20 and very little wear) Postage was £2.80. Buyer hadn't paid same day but started messaging at about 2am asking if, to save postage costs, she could come and collect. This message woke me up so I responded, politely, saying I didn't offer a collection service on small items that could be posted. She continued to message at bloody 2am insisting. She lived about 15 miles away and I then pointed out that the fuel would cost more than the postage. In retrospect I should have ignored but once I'm awake I can't get back to sleep again. Needless to say she refused to pay more than 99p ( which she didnt even do) and I had to report her. Must say I do get bit pissed off to receive messages in the middle of the night

Champagneformyrealfriends · 18/09/2016 08:10

How rude! She needs to put her phone on silent if she wants a peaceful night, or "do not disturb".

eBay will remind her to pay if she hasn't.

MagikarpetRide · 18/09/2016 08:19

You can't win as an eBay seller. If you hadn't messaged but later started an unpaid case buyers call you rude. If you send a polite message, buyers call you rude.

You weren't however rude to send a message when you did. If she didn't want disturbing then she should turn her notifications off.

RandyMagnum · 18/09/2016 08:19

I'd cancel their bid and relist the item, sounds like they're going to be a lot of hard work when they get the item.

Wormwoodm · 18/09/2016 08:25

It was at 6.45am which in hindsight is early for a Sunday morning but as I said. I just thought she'd see it when she woke up as I turn sound off when I get in bed and have never even noticed eBay message making a noise when sound is on my phone. I didn't know about bid sniper. Saying that if her phone is so loud im sure she received notification of winning. I also didn't know eBay would automatically chase payment. I don't use eBay to sell that much and everyone else has always paid within a few hours and likewise, if I buy I just pay at auction end.

OP posts:
Aeroflotgirl · 18/09/2016 08:43

Very very rude of her. I would relist the item. Oh tibba how do you do that on e bay!

tibbawyrots · 18/09/2016 08:45

I'll have to look, it's hidden in preferences under "my account"

Wormwoodm · 18/09/2016 08:46

I didn't reply to her at all as she obviously was being notified of my messages and wanted sleep but now think she will leave negative feedback whatever I do so would rather just not deal with her at all.

OP posts:
Aeroflotgirl · 18/09/2016 08:53

Thanks tibba

Sundaysmumisfullofwine · 18/09/2016 08:56

If it only sold on Friday I don't think I'd be chasing payment yet - I find that a lot of Friday/weekend sales are paid for Monday morning.

Incidentally, our post office is open Sundays - and 5.30am til 9pm. It's great.

Wormwoodm · 18/09/2016 09:49

Ok, as I don't use it a lot it's good to get some advice on normal practice. It seems that I was too quick to ask if item was still wanted. As I said I just pay at end of auction and every other buyer I've had has done the same so assumed that was just the done thing. Really don't think a simple question warranted that level of abuse though!

OP posts:
hownottofuckup · 18/09/2016 10:04

I'd cancel the sale and relist it tbh, I couldn't be bothered with that level of antagonism

19lottie82 · 18/09/2016 10:06

If you cance the sale you will get a defect on your eBay account and risk negative feedback. Don't do it.

Just wait another 48 hours (you could open one tonight, but she sounds a bit mental so I wouldn't want to antagonise her anymore) and if she doesn't pay then open an unpaid item case.........and if she still doesn't pay then escalate it to claim yor fees back.

Wormwoodm · 18/09/2016 10:15

God it's only £5, wish I'd just not bothered at all now!
I'll just ignore her and if she pays she pays. I was only trying to be organised, it's hardly like I was harassing her

OP posts:
HKHKHR · 18/09/2016 11:06

She is definitely being unreasonable.

coolpotato · 18/09/2016 11:12

Yanbu and YABU on his one I think.

2 days is a bit early to chase. Granted it's annoying and I'm in the exact same position as you today. Sold 5 items last night, 4 folk have paid and it would be great if the 5th paid before tom when I plan to go to the PO. Otherwise I'll have to make 2 trips which is a bit of a pain. But such is life!

Also she may not have physically bid at the last minute as there are ways to do it on your behalf.

However, she was being VU ranting and raving and claiming you woke her and the baby up. She needs to learn how to use her phone.

It's a minefield eBay! I've, touch wood only had one bad experience, and hope it continues like that!!
