AIBU - just saw my cleaner clean the loo with a cloth and then use it in another room on my bath!

Was talking to my cleaner as I usually change beds etc while she's here, went to talk in one bathroom and she was cleaning the loo with a bright orange cloth.
Went downstairs to make us tea, she's now in out ensuite and using the same cloth on our bath. I cannot be 100% sure as we have 2 of these cloths in the bag but I will look later to see if the other one has been used.
She comes from an agency so I can just ring the agency and cancel her.
I am a spineless twat and should probably just go up and ask her though shouldn't I? I have clearly told her to use one cloth in each bathroom as we have 4 kids and there's always some virus lurking but she thinking of it she can't do that because there's only ever 2 cloths out out to be washed.
I feel slightly ill.
Someone help me phrase it so I don't sound rude??

I haven't rtft but this reminded me of a very funny French and Saunders sketch where they are chamber maids, and clean the toilets first and then everything else with the same cloth. Managed to find it and is v v funny here

MumblePuppy · 17/09/2016 15:26

Boak not black! Damn autocorrect.

hoopyloop2016 · 17/09/2016 16:39

i am not a professional. my nam was many yeats ago. i use a yellow cloth for the loo a pink cloth for the sink and bath. mu bathroom is bleached every other day and wiped down morining and before bed. i then bleach my clothes and do a 90 degree wash. i also have a sponge cloth for washing up. another sponge/cloth for the kitchen sink and a diffrent sponge/for the kitchen sides and a diffrent sponge for the dinning table. and a diffrent sponge for the wondow ledges. and a diffrent duster for luvingroom and each bedroom. also i have 2 tea towles colour coded. a green one for pots. red one for hands or we use kitchen towel. i would be shocked if a cleaner didnt do the same.

Luluandizzy · 17/09/2016 16:54

YANBU, it's a bit unhygienic. What about giving her some bathroom wipes xxxx

TotallyOuting · 17/09/2016 17:10

I'm not sure at 60 degrees, all the germs would be killed. So becsaue I can't muster up a full load at 90 degrees, I use them once then chuck.

Exactly. I don't have my own washing machine and the ones we use don't allow you to use products with bleach (and they add washing powder themselves anyway, wouldn't want to add more stuff).

Bleach will kill most of the germs Verbena

Bleach isn't really a thing here.

I would be more concerned with all the chemicals used than the bacteria in the home.
I don't use sprays and lots of cleaning products. Hot soapy water, some disinfectant and cloths that get washed is all that's needed.

Surely using disinfectant is worse than a bit of extra cleaning product. Official advice here says not to use anything with disinfectant in it. I'd rather use some extra detergent than breed resistant bacteria...

Verbena37 · 17/09/2016 17:15

hoopy Im not meaning to be being disrespectful in any way but would you say you have OCD?
Washing your clothes after cleaning the bathroom I could sort of understand at a stretch but bleaching them at 90? Is that every time you do the bathrooms daily? To make it easier on yourself, you could clean the bathroom in your undies and then you wouldn't have to keep bleaching your clothes.
Please don't think I'm judging you because I'm really into hygiene too but with that amount of cleaning cloths per room, I'm guessing you have a phobia of germs?

hoopyloop2016 · 17/09/2016 17:29

sorry i just relised it auto correcyed cloths to clothes. i bleach then wash the cloths at 90 degree i do have clothes or aprons depending on time that i only wear for cleaning the bathroom.

Verbena37 · 17/09/2016 17:35

Oh I see. Smile

hoopyloop2016 · 17/09/2016 17:37

and i really have a phobia of jerms. i have 3 children DD7 DD3 DD2 and trying for baby no4 (getting a very tight cleaning routine when baby no4 is here). and 4 cats. so jerms vould spread quickly. it takes me an hour or 2 a day to clean my house daily then a whole day when deep cleaned once a week i have suffered deppression before and the whole house suffered everything felt like a chore cleaning slipped lots i only had my eldest at the time. and i swore i would never end up like that again. i felt so ashamed and thinking about it i still do. so my cleaning came from there.

hoopyloop2016 · 17/09/2016 17:38

Dont have a phobia of jerms.

daisychain01 · 17/09/2016 17:43

Simple cheap solution.

One carrier bag with white + stripped cloths in = toilets only.
Separate carrier bag with other cloths = other cleaning.

After weekly clean, stripped cloths in bucket with Zaflora for 30 mins then rinse and put with all clothes into the machine 15 min cycle.. Ready for the following week.

daisychain01 · 17/09/2016 17:44

Stripped cloths are white btw

daisychain01 · 17/09/2016 17:50

anecdotally I love the F&S sketch! Esp. cleaning the toilet then wiping the tooth brush with the same cloth. I bet my DH would go What's the problem??

Verbena37 · 17/09/2016 18:53

hoopy Flowers. You're really organised. I remember the same thing about the feeling of guilt when I had depression after dd. I could barely get up out of bed and kept putting it all off.

I guess if that much cleaning is helpful and not a bind for you, then that's better than being depressed again and not doing it.

hoopyloop2016 · 17/09/2016 19:11

Thank you. i dont have depression anymore but it can strike again at any time. no its not a bind to me at all if it was i wouldnt do so much and i would calm it down. i have seen doctors ect about it and they say it seems its just something i do as i feel it helps. so never been dignosed as ocd though many people think i am. my dp is included but after being with him 5 years he understands now its just something i do and kind of enjoy it. and if depression did show its face again hopefully cleaning wouldnt feel like a massive chore compared to what i do now anyway. so hopefully i coukd just do one room a day. i understand it may not work like that but heres hopeful thinking.

wiltingfast · 17/09/2016 20:47

I don't know, how long have you had her and has anyone died yet?

Bleach kills everything tbh

Just politely ask if she could use spray disinfectant and paper on the outside of the the loo and the cloths elsewhere?

Ldnmum2015 · 18/09/2016 18:30

You really need to ask her, did you actually see her do this, as a cleaner I carry disposable wipes for the toilet, I also carry my own duster and soft clothes as a lot of clients can forget to stock up. If I were you I would check what she has done, and in future leave out disposable wipes for them. If however she has used the same cloth I would seriously not use her again, you employ her to clean not spread hidden germs.

Overshoulderbolderholder · 18/09/2016 18:58

Sink first, bath/shower next, loo last... Cloth in wash.. Next bathroom new cloth... I don't wash inside of bowl with a cloth.. I use a loo brush 😆😆.. A whole new argument, but I manage to keep mine clean and bleach them in the loo...

Thisisnotreallymyname · 18/09/2016 19:56

Get different coloured cloths and tell her one of them is for loo only

onlyMeeeee · 18/09/2016 21:37

Haven't read the full thread so maybe this has been suggested already, but...
I am a cleaner. I make sure all my clients have those disposable toilet wipes for cleaning the loo. That's what I use at home too. You don't want toilet germs ANYWHERE ELSE! Maybe get her some of those and ask her to use them instead - she won't take offence. Problem solved with zero confrontation. And no YANBU

Mammyashy1 · 18/09/2016 21:43

Yes different cloths should be used but don't just cancel her over this I would buy a red cloth for the toilets only and just say to her I have got this as I would like the toilets only to be cleaned with the red cloth and keep it separate to the others then if she does this cancel her

I'm a wee bit twitchy about cloths and reuse too. Toilet brushes in holders make me want to heave. The 'Duck' loo cleaner pads are excellent as you can scrub the pan, click to release the wodge of cleaning paper into the flush, which also rinses the holder, and holder can be squirted with Dettox, wiped with kitchen roll and stored on its holder. Seat and pan get wiped with paper and squirt of Dettox. Done in seconds, nothing to wash. Could you not get a pack of Toilet Duck, a roll of kitchen paper and a bottle of Dettox and present these to the cleaner ? I did use the loo wipes but they are small, expensive, I was using at least two each time and evidently they are beginning to be a bit of a nightmare, along with baby wipes, in the sewage system. Hopefully a sheet of kitchen paper disintegrates faster - I do try!
