To rehome my cats?

I've had them for 6 months and due to unforeseen circumstances I can't afford to keep them any longer. I love them and believe me it will hurt a lot to see them go but I'm struggling to find any other option. One of them was ill over the weekend (she's fine now) and it made me realise that if something went wrong and one of them needed expensive vet treatments etc then I won't be able to afford it. It's making me miserable.

AIBU to rehome them before I get even more attached?

"I would rather claw out my own eyes than give up my cats, "

What a load of bullshit. Let's try some more realistic scenarios:

"I'd rather our family live on the streets than get rid of my cats"

"I'd rather see my kids without shoes than give up my cats"

"I'd rather see my daughter in her grave from an asthma attack than give up my cats,"

"Id rather see my cat unhappy and poorly cared for than give up my cats."

Real life scenarios don't sound so heroic, do they?

Sounds like a horrible situation.
Animal Friends insurance is approx £6 pcm
ZooPlus does cheap bulk cat food of good quality, also flea treatments etc
If you decide that you need to rehome them in order to care properly for your family and give the cats a better home, then find them someone nice and do so with your head held high as there is nothing wrong with admitting circumstances change.

+1

It is actually a noble thing to do to find your pets a more suitable home if you can't look after them as they need. Better than keeping them and causing suffering even if unintentional.
