Because I'm a shit parent, I bought ds material and assumed I had until Friday to make ds2 outfit (other child on holiday) he was going as a golden ticket, I bought gold shines material and infill and also black material and black thread for the sewing machine.... Until we received a text at 16.03 reminding us about the celebration....

I desperately need inspiration, I have fabric pens, I'm sending dh to Asda for a white t-shirt, I have material pens, fabric paints, printer, goggle, Roald Dahl books... I want to cry, I'd rather be drinking wine.

Please tell me I am not alone and please give me inspiration. My drawing skills aren't the best either.

This thread has just prompted me to check ds2's school website as we'd heard nothing from school. And amazingly, they have something about it on the website (they are usually rubbish at putting anything on the website), and whilst they are celebrating in school with a variety of activities they're not having any dressing up. Yaaaay! because they're saving that for World Book Day - Boooooo - no escape, just a delayed punishment

But at least there's nothing for now Grin (I know, that makes me a miseryguts). And yes, the George's Marvellous Medicine has been my easy last minute outfit on more than one occasion! One year I made an excellent bottle of magic medicine though I do say so myself - I'd got some old vegetable oil that I was going to throw out as it was going rancid. So half a bottle full of that, half a bottle of water with some blue food colouring in. Food colouring stayed in the water, didn't mix into the oil. I also had some old herbs so added them to the mix (think thyme or oregano or that sort of chopped dried leaf) - the herbs stayed in the oil layer so they appeared to be magically floating in the top half of the bottle which impressed ds and his mates and teacher! Usually I just chop a bottle shape out of card and get the appropriate dc to decorate...

A monkey, in his monkey onesie, from The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me.
Absolutely no input from me, he originally wanted to be a tortoise and I said no way so he decided on a monkey.

MsJamieFraser · 12/09/2016 21:46

It's been an awfully long day, but ive done all I can for the limited time we had, he won't look the best but we have tried Blush

he's wearing this with his jeans, and taking in a few Dahl books and a bucket and spade.

Brilliant tshirt!

Ds2 is going as the boy from The Witches. Shorts and tshirt, and 2 paper fingerpuppet mice (made by his big sister this afternoon!).

We did George last year (I stuck a label on his water bottle)

DinosaurFarmer · 12/09/2016 22:45

Great ideas here - really wish I was creative! DS1 going as Mr Fox - own clothes and bought fox ears and a tail that attaches to the back of his trousers courtesy of a well known auction site! That's as far as I'm going with it Grin
