We'll have sob stories galore from the contestants and adverts every two minutes.

I'm lost. The article says it's going to be on channel 4 not ITV?

Oysterbabe · 13/09/2016 11:37

"The first Channel 4 edition of the programme, a celebrity version of Bake Off for the charity Stand Up To Cancer, will be broadcast in 2017."

Nooooooooooooooooo

surferjet · 13/09/2016 11:41

Given the BBC are a bunch of corrupt fucking fat cat hypocrites who spent years protecting sex offenders I hope they go bankrupt

Couldn't agree more.

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/09/2016 11:48

Remember when the awful Adrian Chiles and the cringesome Christine Bleakley were inexplicably popular on The One Show and ITV lured them from the Beeb with massive multi million pound contracts? And it all went tits up.

Well that's what I hope happens here.

Farewell GBBO my cakey friend.

There's a petition running:

frostyfingers · 13/09/2016 14:43

Hands up I'm not a GBBO fan, I've watched it a couple of times and enjoyed it but do not slavishly follow it. This morning it seems to have taken over the world - Chris bloody Evans going on and on and on about it, even on the Today programme so I switched to my local radio station and there it was again.

Enough please! Yes, I'm a grumpy old git I know, but really it's madness the coverage it has received.

RepentAtLeisure · 13/09/2016 15:16

I am amused that David Cameron got upstaged by a cooking show. No, not amused - gleeful!

frostyfingers · 13/09/2016 16:35

I suppose that's something to be greatful for, hadn't thought of that!

Goingtobeawesome · 13/09/2016 16:42

C4 have said Mel and Sue will step down. Aka c4 don't want them Sad.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 13/09/2016 16:46

C4 have said Mel and Sue will step down.

Sad
Jasonandyawegunorts · 13/09/2016 16:51

Oh dear.. Typical really, buy the perfect winning formula, then start dismantling and changing it.

This is effectively the end of the Bake Off. No Mel and Sue, ad breaks and there have to be changes to format.

SOmeone on the radio this morning made a comment about killing the goose which lays the golden eggs, and they're absolutely right.

lalalonglegs · 13/09/2016 16:53

Surely Mel and Sue have decided not to move to Channel 4 rather than Channel 4 has decided they aren't needed Shock?

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/09/2016 16:54

C4 have said Mel and Sue will step down. Aka c4 don't want them

I doubt that very much. I think Channel 4 would have hoped to keep the whole team as it was.

LunaLoveg00d · 13/09/2016 17:04

I can't see Mary Berry going either, tbh. Paul Hollywood may, as he would be free to plug his books, bread mixes and everything else on Channel 4 in a way he couldn't on the Beeb.

In fact, I would tune in to watch Mel, Sue and Mary eating cake and chatting for an hour.

Viiolettheorgangrinder · 13/09/2016 17:08

Won't be the same without mel and sue :(

Inyournightdress · 13/09/2016 17:14

I think they will all walk as a statement. I'd be very surprised if Mary and Paul stayed. It's now become a sinking ship.

Madeyemoodysmum · 13/09/2016 17:19

Bake off is over. Goodbye cozy nights eating cakes run up to Christmas. I'm gutted 😢😢😢😢😢😢

MrsHathaway · 13/09/2016 17:24

Mel and Sue's statement is lovely. Very generous to the team.

Then ...

"We're not going to follow the dough."

Classic GBBO pun right there.

Kit30 · 13/09/2016 17:27

BBC breaking news Hmmhad 'Mel,Sue,Mary and Paul not involved in negotiations' when production company put GBBO up for grabs.Sounds like C4 have just got the format then. And ads. Lots of ads.

MrsHathaway · 13/09/2016 17:36

Not even necessarily the format. The name.

Interesting to see what will happen to applications without the momentum of a series - they must get the bulk of their applications just after the final, like everything else. Then there's the good will they'll have lost from the change and losing Mel and Sue (at least). Will they get enough applicants of the right standard who like keeping their clothes on?

lostincumbria · 13/09/2016 18:23

Can just imagine the BBC offering Mel, Sue, Mary and Paul the chance to come up with their own format.

yeOldeTrout · 13/09/2016 20:55

ugh, ffs, you'd think Channel 4 was taking over Buckingham palace, all this opprobrium.

MN can we have a GBBO topic, I'm bored stiff with this story.

Oysterbabe · 13/09/2016 21:02

😢😭
I'm going to start my own Bake Off. With blackjack and hookers.

sashh · 14/09/2016 08:31

OK Ladies (and yes I know not everyone on here is female or identifies as a lady but I can't be bothered to list all sub catagories).

Could MN start a production company and hire Mel and Sue, PH and Mary? The programme could be 'great MN bake off'?

I'm sure between us we have the skills and talent.

Oysterbabe your ideas will, of course, be given due consideration, but if Mary says 'no' then it's a no.
