Why do people think this is okay?!

Am I the ass hole here, or is this just not on? It drives me mad.

I do understand it makes some people anxious

But strangers showing affection that comes from a very primal feeling wanting to care and protect young children and babies is something I hope we don't lose

When we hear about so much aggression it's a reminder that the the vast majority of people are good and kind and caring

I was gently told off by an older gentleman for not wanting to accept 50p for ds to buy an ice cream it said it made him happy and that made me cry so we did and it made is all happy in our own way

Very good point Fluffy. I think bump grabbing is bang out of order but cannot understand people getting het up about someone stroking their baby's head or arm. It reminds me of toddlers that snatch toys away from you shouting 'mine!'

There seems to be a correlation between not wanting the baby touched with people talking about touching their baby bump.
Which would suggets that they see the baby as the same as themselves, as a body part that they own, and not a whole person of their own, a new member of society.

Not at all. It's more that they don't like be touched by strangers without their consent and that their baby may feel the same.

My DD was preterm with a very low birth weight meaning getting ill could have caused her real problems. Although she looks a chunky healthy 8 month old now, she still has a medical condition that means getting an infection can be more serious for her. People trying to touch a baby they know nothing about without the consent of the parent is wrong.

In scotland its common for old dears to put money in the pram of newborns, even stangers for luck, even stangers babies and I think its a lovely wee tradition thats dying out.

Most people are lovely, and mean your baby know harm, they will just want to coo over him/her.
