Going on a date later, I messaged earlier this week suggesting a time and asking about place. He suggested a general area of the city we live in and I agreed. He still hasn't messaged to confirm a location though... Supposed to be meeting at 7... When is too late?!

Your reply would have me wondering if you were that interested tbh op. A simple 'sounds good, what shall we do' puts it in his course. Sounds good would leave me feeling your hanging back.

Fwiw I do think you need equal pulling weight and showing interest but if this was a first date then you've no reason to think he's not interested. He may have wondered if you sounded that interested.

I hope one of you did sort out and confirm but if neither of you did then it looks like neither of you are that interested to the other so I'd more on to someone else.
