Anyone like to put names forward for a charity that my daughter school can do a fundraiser for?

My daughter (14) and her best friend are holding a sweet sale and are selling fizzy drinks at school in a few weeks but they haven't come up with a good charity they'd like to support yet, 50% of all of the profits will go to the charity and 50% will go towards buying supplies as they will be doing this once a month until the end of Y11.
They want to support a different charity each month. We will be putting names of charities in a hat and picking them out each month.

Limbpower-helping people with amputations (congenital or medical) access sport. Particularly good with Paralympics on now.

As this is quite small scale fundraising, I would suggest a small local charity where a small donation will make more of a difference. For example, the RNLI do a fantastic job, but their annual income is £190 million, so the proceeds of a sweet sale won't make a lot of difference to their funds.

I've seen a brilliant charity on Facebook who make personalised Converse for children with cancer and other serious illnesses. They put their favourite characters, musicians, pets, their name, everything they like. It remind the children of who they are outside of all the cancer treatment and can give them a reason to get up and about.

The charity is called Supershoes.

FeedMeAndTellMeImPretty · 08/09/2016 22:29

Ah whoops! Well hopefully someone else might like to check them out and donate or fundraise for Supershoes and all the other great charities mentioned?

They might want to consider the progeria foundation for their next fund raiser. It very rare, it happens one in every 8 million births. Kids with it basically prematurely age and normally don't live past their teens. Average age is 13 but some do live to their early twenties. No cure. m.youtube.com/watch?v=i6IcijCQMjY

The girl in the video died last year aged 17.

I'd have a look at local charities, they often appreciate £10 more than a big charity and often will send someone to collect the money.

Would abortion support network be controversial?

Local refuge / hospice.

Children's Liver Disease Foundation - they support children and families with all sorts of liver problem including those having liver transplants.

Postpals - great little charity, very supportive to families with a child with chronic illness. Worth a look, any of you may be able to help by sending post to a young person or their sibling to brighten their day.

Just seen you've chosen but this is a great list for anyone considering something like this and looking for ideas.

I've spoken to the school and we have our first event on the 23rd of September. We will be able to hold a total of 10 event in the next 12 months. This means we need to pick another 5 charities. I will put the names of the charities that haven't already been selected in a hat and post at 10:45pm which are the final 5 charities. Will be accepting any more charity requests in the next 45 minutes. :))

I said 'we' I obviously mean my daughter and her friend but I will be helping with handling donations and buying supiles. We are going to spend 50% on supplies and the other half goes the charity.

This is a really good opportunity for your daughter and friends to do some research, to discuss among themselves the sorts of things they care about, and figure out where their money can make most difference.

That would be a learning experience. Instead of the views of a random bunch of strangers from the Internet. And it's more likely to set them up for a lifetime of thoughtful philanthropy.

Ilovewillow · 09/09/2016 22:56

A local hospice or local children's charities who probably don't get as much support as larger charities. Well done to your daughter, lovely idea !
