To Think This Is Too Harsh?

I came across an article this morning about a woman who has been sentenced to 5 years for using a parent and child parking space without a child. I hate when people do this, car parks are a nightmare when you have kids especially when you have to park quite a bit away from the shop. It is infuriating, but is 5 years in jail away from her children not a bit much? Considering theres peadophiles and rapists out there that get far less.
Not going to lie I got a giggle at the end end of the article - A 64-year-old man was arrested at Southend Waitrose for using a Parent and Child space with his 41-year-old son.

A fellow shopper said: ‘I can’t see how this will ever be progressed through the Crown Prosecution Service. None of the signs stipulate a minimum age.’

Quite right too. I think that there should also be a custodial sentence for anyone who parks really badly, in any kind of space.

Have you heard of cognitive bias and confirmation bias?

I bet that deep down you wanted this to be true so you believed it and posted it Grin

Well five years in prison would be a breeze compared to what some MNers would do to her :o

It isn't really funny that people are reading what is printed and are not fully thinking about it.

It shows how easy it would be to use propaganda.

It happens right now. People believe what they want to believe and don't fact check stuff. With social media, stories can get out easily - and once out, it's hard to retract.

Yes, DM - looking at you

That's exactly how Nigel Farage has done his propaganda for years. Make a made-up claim, splash it all over the papers, then quietly retract it – but by them loads of numpties believe it.

My minds in other places today! Been trying to find distraction! We rarely use them too I think we used one for the first time on Saturday there and it was just because it was close. Theyre never available anywhere! I am now having a good old laugh to myself as the same website posted another article about a child getting taken away from his mother at 3 days old because she called him Keith!

That's true ego it's exactly how propaganda is already used.

It has been for years. In the 1980s (or 90s, can't remember) there was some made up bullshit about children being forced to sing "baa baa green sheep" rather than black sheet. It was total nonsense but some people believed it, and it's become a well known example of "political correctness gone mad", even though it didn't happen. Although some people probably adopted it after it was printed.

I think 5 years is a very reasonable punishment for people who circulate blatantly false stories.

Who would believe this Shock
Did you see that Mr Tumble had been suspended by BBC for not having recent CRB/ equivalent Grin

As for car park spaces, use what you like, there is no law at all.

Katie Hopkins fell for something and retweeted it - because she believed it.

It was a road sign in Leeds she believed had been translated into Urdu? Turns out it was photo shopped. But she wanted it to be true so didn't fact check.

Personally I think people who park in P&C spaces should be killed with fire. And banned from every Asda.
