We don't allow dogs at work we have a huge sign on the wall outside but people still act surprised when I don't allow them or they ask if they can carry them then they always storm off claiming to spend there money else where happens atleast twice a day Really winds me up and no we never used to allow dogs either

Ah didactyl I must have missed that the confined space is due to allergy.

I. That case, if you issued an exemption, everyone is happy.

A problem that many assistance dog owners have is that taxi drivers say they have SN allergy but don't have an exemption certificate to back it up. They just drive off, leaving the ordinary with a disability stranded and vulnerable.

It's a quandary. There's no requirement for an assistance dog owner to state they have a dog with them when they book a taxi. The driver shots carry them regardless, as the law says.
However if you do state you have an assistance dog with you, it's experienced by some that no taxis are available or for it to just not turn up.

Taxi ranks can be particularly difficult. If a driver says no, it's very difficult for the person with a disability to argue or insist. Even taking details about the taxi drivers vehicle and license is difficult, especially igneous are visually impaired.

My Dh is allergic to horses too.
And cats
And some breed of dogs.

They set off his asthma. We have found long coated animals are fine which is how we have gotten away with the cat

CandyMcJingles · 07/09/2016 22:14

Nurse pearl I am really not deliberately misreading posts. I have directed any of my posts at any one poster.
I'm offering another view.

This is a thread about dogs in public spaces and I am contributing from the perspective of a guid dog owner.

My view l's are just as valid as anyone else on this thread.

I'm not looking for an argument.

Why are you bothered by what I am saying?

Didactylos · 07/09/2016 22:14

Candy - that's good to know about the allergies: not ideal but it is a way to work around an issue which could impact on both the taxi user and the driver crosses metaphorical taxi driver off my list of ruled out careers

And yes: the rights conveyed with a service dog are nothing to do with animal; the rights are for the owner to have equal access to services and facilities.
which is why I will happily suck it up and modify my behaviour to allow service dogs: because I am likely to have more options and less barriers to accessing things
still wont be happy about someone who prioritises their pet over my discomfort though

CandyMcJingles · 07/09/2016 22:15
  • I have not directed. Typo
CandyMcJingles · 07/09/2016 22:17

Didactyl in any scenario, if you explained you were allergic I would hope mostbservicebdogbowners would work with you to ensure you werent impacted if they could help it.

CandyMcJingles · 07/09/2016 22:20

Mummyme there is a FB group called Tios for Special Needs at Disney if you want more info about disability assistance there.
Service horses are more common in America I believe. They are little ones I think. Yes I'd love one too :)

nursepearl · 07/09/2016 22:23

I am not bothered by what you are saying, just merely expressing an opinion as you say you are doing. I do not recall saying your views are not valid in any of my posts, just that you persist with the theme that people object to guide dogs, when in fact they are discussing non working dogs in shops and cafes. And yes everyone's views here are valid, regardless of their background and circumstances.

Smartieskid · 07/09/2016 22:24

Food hygiene state that dogs are allowed in cafes pubs or places that serve food but dogs aren't allowed in the food preparation area because we have an open kitchen and food preparation area dogs could easily walk or run into the area has happened before with dogs that weren't allowed in the building but owners had managed to sneak the dog past the entrance pluss we also have space out side to eat with your dogs as a building having dogs in would be mayhem with brakable goods we always find broken things already that people break and don't pay for hide or refuse to pay for we are make enough with out allowing dogs

OP posts:
Didactylos · 07/09/2016 22:24

Candy - I am sure that is the case but to be honest I would probably avoid bothering a guide dog user about my allergies unless it was unavoidable

in most situations its pretty easy for me to alter my behaviour to accommodate a guide dog without putting myself at risk and I would not want to place an added burden of feeling responsible for me on anyone who already has added obstacles in accessing public space

Mummyme1987 · 07/09/2016 22:28

Candy thanks but I was only fantasy shopping. Still want a service horse though, maybe like the one on the Amazon prime as that gets its own dog door!

Mummyme1987 · 07/09/2016 22:28

It could pull my wheelchair about! Lol

CandyMcJingles · 07/09/2016 22:30

At Disney then you need a fleet wearing feathered hats to glide down Main Street mummyme ;)

Mummyme1987 · 07/09/2016 22:34

Lol I do! But first I need the genie to magic up the money to pay for it all first! Lol

IAmSugarTits · 07/09/2016 22:35

I'll be keeping my eye out for threads like these in future.

Tit for tat ---- I was heavenly Halo

Any ways- what's the majority?

Is op ur?

Or is she ur?

Mummyme1987 · 07/09/2016 22:36

The service horses must be tiny, how would they fit in cars or shops?

Mummyme1987 · 07/09/2016 22:40

Yes they are just looked up that link

Mummyme1987 · 07/09/2016 22:41

Yanbu

CandyMcJingles · 07/09/2016 22:43

I think they are like Shetlands mummyme.

I would LOVE to see one in a cafe!

I tihink sugartits, the consensus is (but I might be flamed)

People should respect the businesses wishes
No Dogs except assistance Dogs
No snakes or Tarantulas Either (except assistance snakes or tarantulas)
Assistance Horses welcome
Dogs are lovely and not stinky and smelly
People should be considerate of those with allergies.

Soubriquet · 07/09/2016 22:44

Yes I think they are Shetland ponies

They could use Falabellas I suppose but I've heard they have a bad temper

Soubriquet · 07/09/2016 22:45

Ah

They do use Falabella horses

link

dybil · 07/09/2016 22:47

Candy - no one is disagreeing with you. As other posters have noted, no-one in this thread is saying that guide dogs should be banned from any public place. When you have directly asked people, they have confirmed that they don't think guide dogs should be banned. For much of this thread you appear to be have been having a debate with no one.

Didactylos · 07/09/2016 22:48

OP not UR for me
as long as she makes sure users of service dogs (and horses) are appropriately let in!

CandyMcJingles · 07/09/2016 22:50

I haven't said anyone did disagree with me.

I haven't argued with anyone.

I've already explained my reasons for posting I think, and in some detail.

Didactylos · 07/09/2016 22:53

dibyl- I for one valued the debate as a literally non dog tolerant person
its easy for me to pontificate about what I do and how I think it should be

but Candy pointed out some valuable things on the thread about the ways that guide dogs are not always accepted where they should be allowed: and how difficult it is for someone who may already be feeling vulnerable due to an impairment to deal with and challenge this: that's a very important perspective and not heard enough
