aibu to have my hackles raise at how interested people are in DD's periods?

I have a 14, nearly 15 yr old dd.

As (apparently) everyone wants to know, she got her first period in March. When it came in, I wondered if I should tell people - close friends, family members, etc. Talked to DH, read body language etc from DD and told no one except my mum.

I'm SHOCKED by how many people who are friends of mine are 'fishing'? "oooo, has she started her periods yet? .... I wondered"

I do get that they were interested in when she walked, talked, used a potty, etc. But she's a fully formed person now. I don't know when my cousins, aunties, friends from around the country have their periods, so why are they so interested in DDs? And there seems to be a bit of a "I have a right to know" about it all.

Am I the only one, or does your DD also have no apparent privacy as to her womb???

That is really wierd. I've never had someone ask me about my DD period. Ever. I've volunteered info as necessary (school residential when she was on her period with relation to swimming and with a doctor). She is only ten though, so started very early.

123beanie · 07/09/2016 00:09

YANBU. How strange

WorraLiberty · 07/09/2016 00:09

Oh chill out.

Lots of Mums ask other Mums of teenage girls if they've got their periods yet.

Same as lots of teenage girls ask each other.

'Your FF having no apparent privacy as to her womb', is too over dramatic for words.

Answer them or don't. I'm quite sure they're not losing sleep over it.

TattyCat · 07/09/2016 00:09

Nothing surprises me any more. I think the world is going mad, quite honestly.

WorraLiberty · 07/09/2016 00:10

FF = DD

PortiaCastis · 07/09/2016 00:11

I think its weird you're putting your dds personal info on a very public domain Sorry, . Ive a teenage dd but no way am i disclosing anything about her. Nobody has ever asked me her personal info not even my Mum.

BreconBeBuggered · 07/09/2016 00:14

I have no DDs of my own, but wouldn't - didn't - consider this a question I'd ask about my nieces. I don't understand why anyone would be interested.

WorraLiberty · 07/09/2016 00:18

When it came in, I wondered if I should tell people - close friends, family members, etc. Talked to DH, read body language etc from DD and told no one except my mum.

See I find that ^^ even weirder.

Your DD got her period and you wondered if you should offer up that information to other people, without them even asking?

Who does that? Confused

redskirt3 · 07/09/2016 00:22

I'm interested in your question as I suspect my mother and maybe others will be asking the same thing about my own DDs. However I remember that when I was at that age I didn't want my mother to tell anyone as I felt very strongly that it was my private info to share. So I want to give my DDs the same level of privacy that I needed.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 07/09/2016 00:22

I do not believe this for a second. Going to bed.

SabineUndine · 07/09/2016 00:23

When I was 12 a family friend asked my mum 'does Sabine wear a bra yet?' At a family gathering with 5 other people in the room. I wanted to die. No YANBU. Tell them MYOB.

PortiaCastis · 07/09/2016 00:23

Hmmmm seems very weird

Myusernameismyusername · 07/09/2016 00:27

I told my female family members. I'm probably not normal

JellyPlum · 07/09/2016 00:27

This is weird.

I don't have teenagers but I wouldn't expect these questions (nor would I tell anybody). But, also, she's almost 15. I'd assume most girls start their period before that so why would people be asking now? Weird. And who is asking? Tell them to fuck off and mind their own business. Weird, weird, weird question to ask anybody.

Did I say weird enough times?

Salmiak · 07/09/2016 00:28

IF this is real, your friends are fucking weird.

WorraLiberty · 07/09/2016 00:33

The OP has said it's her friends who are asking.

I don't think that's weird, especially if they have DDs of their own...not that she's said they have, but then she's given no context at all really.

"Has your child reached X milestone yet", is something most friends ask each other IME.

Porg · 07/09/2016 00:40

I probably told my mum and sister, no one else ever asked.

JudyCoolibar · 07/09/2016 00:45

No-one ever asked me either. Have you asked them why they need to know when a child who is not related to them has started her periods?

budgiegirl · 07/09/2016 00:55

My MIL asks if my DD has started her periods almost every time she sees me, which is a couple of times a week. It drives me demented, I have no idea why she's so obsessed with it! Why do people care so much about other peoples periods?

BasicMadeira · 07/09/2016 01:01

The information about her periods starting is your DDs to share and not yours Op. I even think telling your mother is inappropriate and would not see the difference between telling a friend with a daughter a similar age and your mother who has no reason to know whatsoever.
