School uniform

AIBU or what. My school has changed its top from red to white. I have had my children back for two days and my dd white top has an impossible pasta sauce stain on which would have been OK with her red top. Feeling fed up already other parents are saying the same Have I the right to feel peeved at the change of the uniform policy

I definitely would be peeved at the White. Whoever decided that has never had kids or is knob end or a combo of the two. Yanbu

Weirdly DD1's school has changed policy this year to allow green polo shirts as well as white. I prefer white everything as it's easy to keep it white by washing it all together and using lots of Vanish. I also never buy logo'ed tops as they are something silly like £10 each - I get supermarket multi packs of plain ones and bin any that get stained beyond redemption.

Pasta sauce shouldn't be a 'bin it' type stain though. A bit of Vanish, wash today and don't leave it to dry in... Dry on the line to let the sun bleach it if necessary.

Meant to say - I wonder if the change to allow green was in response to parents finding white too high maintenance...

Also, don't forget sun light will fade tomato stains!

Whites fairly standard and usually dirt cheap in asda. I replace a couple each term.

White is a bloody ridiculous colour for any clothes IMO. Yanbu.

It was red jumper or cardigan and red polo shirt. But this has changed to white pole shirt and red jumper or cardigan hope this clears it up

Usually a cold soak and a hot wash work a treat on stains.

Failing that I send mine in stained. Happened at school so they can't exactly huff!

Are they logo'd polo tops? TBH the generic white ones are the easiest and cheapest to get hold of, so they're not all bad.

White polos are fine - you can pick up very competitively priced ones anywhere, and stick them all in together on a hot wash. Much better than coloured polos IMO

I did the vanish and straight in the wash but the stain is still there. It is almost just like it is taunting me

Ours have white polos, I don't know what they put in school spag Bol but it never comes out. Ever.

Neat washing detergent rubbed in or washing up liquid then wash it on a normal wash. Don't buy expensive stain removers they're a con.

I have pots of vanish because my two are always covered in something or other

White here too. Tesco own brand oxi spray is amazing for stain removal. Pasta sauce, grass stains, pen, it gets it all out.

I also rub washing up liquid into stains before washing

washing line in daylight - the sun will bleach it out. Don't despair!

Oh ok. I thought you meant jumper. DS has white polos and never had issues

Where I taught switched from a colour to white. There are two distinct approaches:

• replace regularly, or
• get greyer as the year goes on

No-one minds if you for the grey option.

I like white polos because I can buy a multipack for £3.50 in Tesco and replace them if they are permanently stained.

Just leave it in the sun for a day or so - if we ever get any sun again :)

Another saying daylight for tomato based stains - works miracles. Don't dry it wet it if nec and hang on the line ...even without sun it will come out.
I used to put lemon juice on too but found it wasn't necessary - also works for orange juice stains.
I 'saved' three white polo shirts once that were going into the recycling bag because they had various stains on by leaving them out on the line for two weeks...
I think white polo shirts are easier to buy and look better but are really impractical for small DCs... especially ones who have school lunch.
