She (3) starts nursery this week.
I've got her a card and a gift bag with a few bits and pieces, bubbles, pencils, colours, pad, that kind of thing.

DH asked me what the present was for then said its weird and you don't buy presents for that, I wanted to make a little fuss of her being a big girls and starting nursery for the first time

Who's unreasonable?

If her parents don't mind I think you can buy her a present for no reason at all. Yanbu

I got my dn a starting school present too. I don't think it's weird.

curlycat · 05/09/2016 20:56

I have done that for my nephew starting nursery and promary school. Its a big milestone in their life and its nice for it to be recognised

harderandharder2breathe · 05/09/2016 21:05

Unless you're going to drip feed that you bought her a pony or have skipped paying rent to pay for her present, yanbu

It's nice to buy presents for people

Skittlesss · 05/09/2016 21:12

Aww I think that's lovely :)

Pardonwhat · 05/09/2016 21:13

I think it's lovely and will help make starting nursery the exciting and wonderful experience that it should be! You sound lovely Smile

nilbyname · 05/09/2016 21:15

Not weird.

I got my God son some big boy pants when he started potty training. I like giving gifts, it's my love language.

Kit2015 · 05/09/2016 21:49

Oh I think that's lovely. Good idea OP.

MUjunkie · 05/09/2016 23:05

It's my nephews first day full time tomorrow and I'm going to pick him up from school on Wednesday and I've got him a present Smile

Thank you!
I like giving presents. I don't know how to tell him I have a bag of stationary for his Niece because she got the GCSEs she needs to go to college Grin

What a lovely godmother!!!!

Buy her a present because itsTuesday if you want to, you don't need a reason!

Quietlygoingmad67 · 06/09/2016 01:47

I think it's lovely to buy your god daughter a gift. My little god daughter starts school tomorrow (today!) and I brought her book bag and PE bag and a little bag of goodies to have when she gets home from her first day. My elder god daughter is 19 and I brought her shoes for her prom - it's nice to buy presents and I love giving presents to people when they least expect it

Blondieblondie · 06/09/2016 02:01

Not strange at all. I bought my niece a card and a watch for starting school. She can't tell the time, but it will help her learn and I wanted to do something to mark her big day.

madeupusernames · 06/09/2016 16:02

What a lovely lovely gesture! I would love it if my dd's had other significant adults that wanted to spoil and indulge them other than us parents!!

HereIAm20 · 06/09/2016 17:36

I echo the others. It's a lovely though and will reinforce her parents' decision that they made the right choice for godmother unlike many
