The Gusset Movement

LimeJellyHead · 03/09/2016 10:54

We the undersigned would like to stand up (and sit down) and be counted, with our knicker gussets in the correct anatomical position.

For countless years we have been wearing our gussets nearer to our back bottoms than our gusset-loving front lady parts. We have waited since 1989 for the invention of the world wide web to finally be able to air our gusset woes (and share pictures of cats).

The time has come for the ladies of the world to speak up. The conspiracy of the ill-positioned knicker gusset must end now. We, the Gusset Movement, request a re-positioning of those all-important panty parts. Please knicker makers of the world, move the gusset forward.

RTFT to try to understand what on earth you're all on about! Snotlyn explained it perfectly and I agree - I think. It would need to be a bit wider at the front though - the whole triangular front bit is just too short. I cant wear shorts style either because they try to become a thong as my huge arse escapes. Vague current solution is to buy the high-leg briefs which look like normal ones on me...

Can I also do a quick straw poll of those who find the correct fitting tights for the legs and hips practically go up to their armpits? They and the knicker manufacturers need to average out their measurements!

Oh, and women's clothes that are not designed for a female shape. Jeans worst for this - gaping waist once correctly fitted elsewhere.

PurpleNurple69 · 04/09/2016 15:27

Ah panty liners! I always position mine quite far forward because they always leaked at the front - I thought there was something wrong with me though rather than my pants. I started to question my own anatomy and wondering if my vagina was pointing in the wrong direction! I knew I had a slightly tilted womb which i assumed was causing the problem - it's the pant manufacturers who've got it wrong! Fanny - you're alright!

PurpleNurple69 · 04/09/2016 15:33

I'm well known in the office for hoiking up my tights as I go. I'm paranoid people can see my low slung gusset below the hem of my skirt. they're never long enough in the leg and I'm only 5' 4". Or they're too long in the leg and end up wrinkling round my ankles Nora Batty style. I say lets free up our downstairs areas and go pant and tightless from now on! Until it gets colder at least. Give crotchless panties a go!

madgingermunchkin · 04/09/2016 15:36

Dear Lord this thread is making me giggle.

And also mightly relieved that I'm not suffering alone!

Whoohoo75 · 04/09/2016 15:42

Lime you speak the truth! Cotton gussets in M&S pants ARE too far back! I have not bought pants from anyplace else for about 20 year so I don't know where else to look for adequate coverage.

There is at certain times of ones' cycle inadequate coverage in the gusset area and since panty liner placing goes hand in hand with gusset positioning I have been woefully served for too long Blush

Oldisthenewblack · 04/09/2016 15:47

I'm liking the idea of corduroy gussets though....

NothingIsOK · 04/09/2016 15:52

Totally agree. Gusset needs to be an inch or two longer at the front on every pair of pants I have ever had.

Now I come to think of it, they're all M&S, and always have been, so maybe I should ask them directly to consider a change.

TresDesolee · 04/09/2016 15:56

I'm so glad someone has finally taken a stand on this important issue. Gussets on my pants have never come anywhere close to the top of my growler. Pads are always positioned half on the gusset and half up the front.

(M&S midis here - perfectly comfy in all other ways)

RaspberryOverload · 04/09/2016 16:02

OP, do you know when that picture was taken? The picture looks like it was taken in the 50s, when suspenders were very commonly worn.

Because it shows something I've been trying to explain to people for quite some time.

Suspenders/suspender belts go UNDER the knickers, not over the top!

I've got friends who complain about having to undo the suspender belt in order to go to the loo, but they look at me in a Hmm way when I tell them to wear the knickers on top.

This isn't helped by the photos used by those selling the garments, where the knickers are underneath, clearly because you see the product while at the same time the model can retain some modesty.

You're not wrong about the gusset though. I always end up putting towels/liners in forward of the gusset. An inch further forward would be good.

As for tights, I don't bother. I wear stockings instead. No problem with fit then.

Pestilence13610 · 04/09/2016 16:32

Agree with the suspender belt comments, they go under knickers and work much better if you get one with 6 straps.

By the time a knicker wearer gets the gusset they want, a knicker observer gets a look they don't want.
Big gussets show

SoupDragon · 04/09/2016 16:44

I have this with Primark pants, Debenhams pants and Tesco pants so it's not just one manufacturer.

SoupDragon · 04/09/2016 16:45

I wonder if a better placed gusset would help with camel toe?

Shouldwebeworried · 04/09/2016 17:23

I've not noticed if my gussets are too far back but a lot of them are far too narrow not allowing proper coverage at all. I currently need new pants and am at a loss where to buy. Everywhere I look they are either hideously ugly or impractical. Damn pants dilemas!

PurpleNurple69 · 05/09/2016 13:29

Ever since I discovered the gusset issue, I've found myself taking an unhealthy interest in my nether regions, particularly liner position! Damn you!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 05/09/2016 13:33

OP, I agree. A gusset should at least cover ones labia.

Pestilence13610 · 05/09/2016 17:48

My gusset is fine. But what to do with my hunt?

KC225 · 05/09/2016 17:51

GUNT

rubybleu · 05/09/2016 18:14

I have this problem too. I thought it was just me. Bizarrely I actually wear pants out 1" in front of the gusset on M&S Brazilians. Panty liners always need to be placed further forward than the gusset.

I have a shapely, quite high bum though. I have never found a pair of pants that doesn't give either VPL or hungry bum. Currently liking Sloggi Evernew hipster shorts for comfort but they do give good VPL.

LimeJellyHead · 06/09/2016 10:55

There you go ladies... a lot of us placing panty liners further forward than the gusset. Enough said.

This needs to change!!!!

Sounds like a euphemism...

LeonardInTheArgosBag · 07/09/2016 04:09

I'll sign, OP. I'm with you.

Is this one of those petitions that will be debated in parliament once it hits a certain number? I for one would love to hear the word "gusset" ringing from the rafters of the House of Commons.

LimeJellyHead · 07/09/2016 08:54

lol, at most I was going to contact some of the major knicker makers/retailers but with only 9 people brave enough to support The Gusset Movement so far, I can't see it Sad

I worked with a pompous man called Gus once and always use to call him gusset in my head in a childish way and snigger.

I 'll back your gusset movement, Lime, although I may not be your target audience as I'm ashamed to admit I always wear a cotton thong. I've got so used to them, a full pant feels odd. I'm sure my arse is probably past it's prime. God knows what it looks like from behind.

A midwife checked my stitches a few days after birth and was very shocked to see my thong. She said it was 'unsuitable'.Confused
