To buy my son girls' leggings?

Does anyone else but their sons girls' leggings? He starts nursery soon and jeggings look great with the nursery tshirt but are still super comfy but I can only actually see them for sale for girls? So would it be too obvious?

My pre schooler ds wears girls leggings under his football shorts v practical in winter

StrawberryQuik · 02/09/2016 20:24

Most of my DSs trousers are girls/unisex leggings. I don't think babies look comfortable in proper trousers.

SamuelSammy · 02/09/2016 20:26

User, that must come from the parents. No 4 year old would seriously know what to take the piss out of regarding trousers.

So are we talking age 1 or age 4? I think it makes a difference.

Purplefrogshoes · 02/09/2016 20:27

My ds, 16 months always wears leggings as boys trousers are far too wide for his skinny frame. Little bird leggings are my favourite

SamuelSammy · 02/09/2016 20:27

Joggers still drown him. If they cuff at the bottom, they look like he is wearing a parachute and of they don't, he trips up. He is a short, skinny little guy.

Joggers drown mine too. PoP leggings are ace - still a tiny bit big in the waist for my Ds (I do feed him honest) but better than his pants falling off constantly.

Londonbum · 02/09/2016 20:30

Another skinny 2yo in "girls" leggings here. Practical and comfy, look very nice. Boys trousers are frigging enormous usually. Also try La Redoute!

Artandco · 02/09/2016 20:33

User - really? My boys wear leggings and tights. They are at school. Nobody takes the piss and many wear the same.

Joggers are sports clothes imo

Totallyspies17 · 02/09/2016 20:35

I did this a lot when my boys were little. I think if they look ok and are comfortable then it's fine Smile

Totallyspies17 · 02/09/2016 20:37

I hate joggers and think leggings are a good alternative for toddlers.
(I don't let my boys wear joggers unless they are actually playing a sport!!!)

thinkfast · 02/09/2016 20:40

Lindex do boys leggings. They're gorgeous. Imagine other Scandinavian brands will do then too

Mrsfrumble · 02/09/2016 20:41

I bought DS a pair of mint green joggers with white stars from the girls section of Mothercare this week. I was buying a pair for his little sister and he liked them so much he wanted some too. And he's nearly 6! He also wore leggings and tights all the time as a baby and toddler; he's long and skinny and they fit better.

Boys wearing girl's clothes isn't innately ridicule-worthy.

Mrsfrumble · 02/09/2016 20:44

Tip for those that hate joggers; I agree that the baggy ones are rubbish, but girls ones are often a much slimmer cut and look much better.

maddiemookins16mum · 02/09/2016 20:46

DD used to wear navy blue boys dungarees (with a blue/pink checked blouse). They were hand me downs, really soft, comfortable and washed a treat (and never needed ironing). She was six (and they had Noddy on the front in his car).

BendydickCuminsnatch · 02/09/2016 20:46

Ooh I have never heard of Lindex before!! Looks great! I'm the owner of a long skinny boy too. I do like joggers though as they accommodate his cloth bum well!

PeggyMitchell123 · 02/09/2016 20:49

I put my ds in leggings in the winter on cold days, they are perfect for underneath his trousers for extra warmth. Its fine.

CoconutAndVanilla · 02/09/2016 20:50

I also have a very skinny 6yo son, and I would never ever dream of putting him in leggings.

KilgraveMadeMeDoIt · 02/09/2016 20:51

There's no such thing as girls and boys clothes. Both girls and boys of that age are the same shape and they will be for a long time. Put your child in whatever he will be comfortable in.

user1470997562 · 02/09/2016 20:51

Artandco - I'm not being facetious but do you live in a very cold place? The temperature at our school is tropical in the depths of winter. Nobody comes in tights and trousers as they'd boil to death.

Op - I'm imagining he's very little, in which case no problem. But I found when mine got to 4 the comments start coming. Fine if you don't care. The fact that you're asking here makes me think you do.

Heatherbell1978 · 02/09/2016 20:54

DS1 wears leggings all the time (he's 2). He's a skinny wee thing and the waistband of jeans and trousers are always too big. I tend to buy boys ones from H&M but would definitely buy girls ones in non-girly designs.

Love the Jojo leggings. Great under things in the winter or just for toddling around in.

Blade and rose and slugs and snails have lots of choice too

Artandco · 02/09/2016 20:59

User -no I live in London. I don't mean tights or legging under trousers, I mean alone.

Ds2 - 5 years wore navy tights alone with a baggy top today

Ds1 - 6 years, was sporting these m.alexandalexa.com/mini-rodini-off-white-badger-print-leggings/p/73787

ceara · 02/09/2016 21:04

DS has worn the H&M, Blade & Rose and Polarn o Pyret leggings regularly since he started crawling. Comfortable, practical, what's not to like. He's 2.5 now and still wearing them in preference to joggers, which seem to be the standard boy equivalent but don't fit him so well.

Mrsfrumble · 02/09/2016 21:07

Art those leggings are awesome! Don't they get filthy though? They'd be black on the knees if worn by either of my grotbags.

We're in London too and "boys in leggings" raises no comments. Maybe it's regional?
