To think a menstrual cup has changed my life, just an incy bit.

I'm late to trying one always having thought that it would be a bit yucky. I've finally tried one and after a few attempts at different brands I've now found one that works for me......its revolutionary! Today on holiday I've barely had to think about my period. It's my heaviest day and we've been to the beach. I haven't needed to empty it once. With a tampon I would have needed to bring extras with me and would have worried about them leaking. I feel liberated (couldn't find a suitable forum to talk about this so dumped in aibu, sorry)!

Just wanted to say to anyone who either didn't know about them or thinking of trying, do it!

I still haven't got the nerve. TMI prob, but how does it deal with contractions/large clots? I can't use tampons because my body ends up pushing them out.

running could you try it one day when you're about the house? Then you'd be able to swap it over if it's not suitable

I bought a mooncup today on a whim from boots. Out of interest, what brand did you go for in the end?

I love mine - in so far as I love anything period related.

I also found that everything was more comfortable.

It can deal with clots and although my tampons would come out, my cup hasn't ever unless I deliberately push it out.

I've been using a diva cup for about six months and it really is life changing. The only time I leak now is the second night of my period, whereas before I always had to use both tampons and pads for nearly the whole period. The first day and the last 3 days of my period is like I don't even have it. Just insert cup in morning and leave until evening. I even carry on wearing it for a day or two after my period stops to catch the last bits of anything.

I wanted one for years but never got around to buying it. I'm so glad I finally did. I will never go back to tampons!

Lastly, I've heard others say that it reduced their flow, and while I don't quite understand how, I would also say that my period decreased over these six months too, in amount and length.

I've used one for about 7 or 8 years now (not the exact same one! Have rreplaced it occasionally!) and I LOVE it. I forgot it when I was away last year and had to use tampons, they were such a faff, felt horrible and sucked all the moisture up rather than just caught the flow, IYSWIM.

I should think they'd cope well with clots, as (TMI alert) I had a decidual cast once, and that was just sitting in my mooncup.

My period is shorter with one too. I thought it might just be down to mild suction so gets everything out quicker.

Yeah - don't google image it if you are squeamish at all.

Basically the lining of your uterus all
comes away in one go, for me it was after back-to-backing pills for 3 or 4 months

I've used one for last couple of years, it's great! My flow was never particularly heavy but seems to be lighter now (may be age, I'm 38). I empty morning and evening so not when out and I sometimes even forget I'm on my period.

Used to used tampons but after DC2 they just didn't stay in properly

I totally agree, it's amazing the minute you 'get it'.

I also get a shorter period with a menstrual cup too.

Ahh, my people! I love mine too, definitely life-changing. I just wish it was discussed with girls as an alternative to pads/tampons; I'd have tried one far sooner had I known about them. It's thanks to Mumsnet that I have mine now.

When you've got the hang of it Writer. It takes a few goes to get used to getting them in and out.

I love mine. It's liberating not having to faff with tampons.

Portia - that sounds interesting that they won't come out unless you physically wantt them too. I'll have a go and try one when I'm at home.

I can't even use tampons so a moon cup is out of the question! I have heard they are good though.

liberating is the word!

I barely think about my period now it is so hassle free. even camping was easy. less pain and quicker as well.

In some ways I'm tempted but the thought of pushing up near the cervix doesn't appeal, surely that geeks uncomfortable?

I have a question about inserting them if you can help please. I use tampax and can't get on with non-applicator tampons. Would I be likely to be able to insert them?
Also another tmi question, I have two kids by c section and my, ahem, sex life is not very active , which size should I get?

My cup has definitely improved my life! No leaks, no panics about leaking, no tampons up the sleeve in the office and best of all, no pain!
I've gone from being on co-codamol and tranexamic acid every 4 or 5 hours for 5 days, to nothing. Nada. Not even a paracetamol. I curse myself for not doing it years ago

Couldn't get on with a moon cup at all - leaked like a bastard. Switched to a Diva Cup - daft name but its brilliant!! I particularly like that I can wear it when my period is imminent to avoid being caught out. Do that with a tampon and hey presto - haahoo like a desert.

Writer they don't go up by your cervix! They sit just inside the entrance so quite low down.

if you position it correctly you cant feel it at all. it doesnt go high up, or no higher than tampons. I dont think it would work if you cant use non applicator tampons though as you do have to feel ok about using fingers to insert. everyone over age 30 has the same size for mooncups at least.

They sit lower than your cervix writer and aren't uncomfortable at all.

16 there's lots of different ways to fold them to insert them, once in they pop open so its quite different to a non-app tampon. It does require fingers up the fanjo though!

I have got cheaper version called a comfy cup but struggling with it. Can't seem to get it at enough in and then I can feel it when I sit down and getting it out past the suction is terrifying!!
Any words of wisdom..
