AIBU £200.00 Spontaneous spend - only went in for a towel rail!

I realise I'm probably most definitely bu! Only went into store to buy a small towel rail. Came out £200.00 lighter on unintentional spends . Still no towel rail

What's been your most expensive unintentional spend and what was it on?

Went to a petrol station to fill up, purchased a car at the attached garage. Six grand I was twenty and we had the money!

I went to Boots for suncream ready for our hols and bought a mini cooper from the garage forecourt opposite my dp was not impressed, it's the worse car ever because it's so small and not fit for 2 teenagers and 2 big dogs, 4 years later and we still have it....

I see a theme here 🚗🚕🚙 I've nothing to worry about!

Wandered into a charity shop to see if they had any of the books I collect and bought a oak dresser for £250.

It was one of those moments where both me and OH looked at each other and said yes 😄

Do people really impulse buy cars? I can't imagine vbeing so spontaneous as to spend a five figure sum without weeks of planning.

I bought a £60 purse about 20 years ago on a total whim, had popped out to get wrapping paper. Outrageous sum of money to me at the time. I used it for about 10 years though and it was lovely.

DH went out to buy a drill and spent £6400 on a car!

Aimed to buy a packet of chewing gum and ended up spending £171,000 on a house!

Popped into newsagent for gum, met an old friend, chat chat chat, she mentioned her mums ndn was about to put her house on the market, she rang her, we popped in and made an offer the next day!! 16 years later we're still here!

My husband went to a garage to buy something for his car, cost under£5 and he arrived back test driving a car that cost £14,000 happily announcing he had just ordered one. I wasn't that amused.

Not quite an impulse decision but we went to go test drive a used car but came back having ordered a brand new car for £1k less than the used car was being sold for. Absolute bargain!

Prior to that we'd always sworn that we'd never buy a new car because of the depreciation. We do intend to have the car for ~15 years though so that kind of justifies it 😂

A dishwasher. We didn't even have room to fit it in the kitchen without a cupboard being removed. DH was slightly surprised when I said I had something in the boot of the car he'd have to get out!

Went on the thompsons website 'just to have a browse' and booked a holiday for 2 weeks time

Like wine up thread: went into a cafe whilst on holiday for a cup of coffee and ended up spending almost half a million pounds on a house. We were browsing the papers as we drank our coffee and saw it for sale in the property pages. Really unique property, got us interested, we went to view it out of curiosity and fell in love. The rest is history. We lived 350 miles away at the time and had never heard of the place it was in before as we were just passing through on our travels!

No Spider not iKea. It was a store that sells everything from plants/carpets/furniture/ironmongery to food; a proper Aladin's cave of a store - a most dangerous type of store

I do this in lidl. Go in for bread, milk and cat food and come out with a table or a cupboard or something. Bought a cat tray last time and forgot the cat food.

A house here too! We went to take a new home card to friends who had just moved into a new estate. We were recently engaged and not planning to buy as we had no deposit. Went to look at the show home 'to be nosy' and they were doing a deal with deposit paid for first time buyers. Not quite at wineoclock's level though as this was 1994. The house cost £49,000.

I bought a new build apartment on the way go the airport moving to another country.

Separated 6mths before and went to visit my xSIL before I flew out, she saw it in the paper and encouraged me to check it out. So i rang them and put the deposit on my credit card. Didn't even view it!

Was about 150k, 17yrs ago. I'm glad I did it. When I sold it, it hadn't appreciated much but it helped towards the deposit for the house I bought with new DH.

Last week I popped into a local cheapo shop to buy a plastic garden pot for 20p.

They sell everything and lots of dirty cheap ex-catalogue stuff.

I came out with two pairs of jeans, a hoody, a handful of candles, a set of tumblers, a box of chocolates and my pot
