To be waiting for the massive B******s?

It's late August. This time every year as the nights start to get darker, giant, evil spiders of doom run at me across the living room carpet. They lurk next to my bed, in the hallway and climb the curtains. They barricade themselves in the downstairs loo waiting for me to inadvertently lock myself in a tiny space and spot them, mid terrified wee. I have been waiting for two weeks now and it hasn't happened yet. Has anyone else been afflicted with the influx of gigantic leggy knobs?

Is there more this year than normal? It feels like it!

Whichoneisit · 09/09/2016 08:11

One ran over my leg during the night. I hit it off but then couldn't find it. A very long night!

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 09/09/2016 08:34

THIS appeared on my Twitter feed this morning. Very apt! Don't look unless you never want to use the loo again!

flippinada · 09/09/2016 11:50

I'd be using my pants too if that was sat on my loo roll. Actually, scratch that. I'd set fire to the bathroom and move to another country.

"The cuntasaurus-Rex of spiders" Still laughing at this post 10 pages later...

I have only skim read all these posts but has anyone else mentioned cellar spiders yet?

They are those light, spindly ones that hang in corners and don't do much. Most people swat them away due to the cobwebs, however...

DON'T DO THIS!

Cellar spiders are highly aggressive and territorial and will KILL house spiders (the big doc marten-wearing kind). We found a tiny one happily munching on a 2-inch house spider the other day.

I leave them wherever I find them now and I've only encountered one live house spider since (knock on wood...)

IveGotAGoldenTicket · 09/09/2016 12:16

Would it be inhumane of me to ask if you could box some up if you have spare and send them to me so I can strategically place them around my house to hopefully eat the giant ones that I know are lurking and waiting to pounce ?

Pretty please Blush

Wow I didn't know that about cellar spiders, not keen on any spiders though I must admit.

I think I would do that too. Another article showed a picture of the type of spider and it was almost as big as my hand!

Funko · 11/09/2016 15:45

They like my garden too it seems!

I wish I could catch and release them as I feel horrible for squishing them, but I have to kill or be killed the big ones.

My DD's and I have just done battle with a giant one this afternoon. Poor spider but he shouldn't have come into my safe space.

IveGotAGoldenTicket · 11/09/2016 20:54

2 tonight so far. DD came running out of her bedroom after spotting one on her wall that DH got in a glass and put outside. I've just gone in the kitchen and there was an even bigger one against the wall that I got in a glass and again DH put it outside. I have a pic if anyone is interested of the spider. Not DH
