There is building works going on around Wolverhampton.

Massive changes to the local shopping centres with lots of closed down shops and noise.

There are attempts at brightening up the space with 'art'.

One shop space has been turned into a 'gallery' 'curated' by students/recent graduates from the local uni which isn't much more than decals and picture boards stuck to the walls.

There has been work done on murals in the wider open space with one taking one woman days to produce.

Days of climbing up and down a ladder surrounded by barriers, carefully painting a large mural with a huge blank space in rhe middle.

On and off, she has spent weeks working on this opus, painstakingly creating the city's motto against a backdrop of a hellish industrial backdrop.

Today I saw the finished, um, thing.

It turns out she's been working on panels elsewhere to stick on the blank bird/angel space in the middle of the mural.

Ladies and gentlemen!

Allow me to present Wolverhampton's one and only

FLAMING PISSED OFF TURKEY FROM HELL

Seriously?

WTAF?

To my eye, it honestly looks like a not particularly talented teenager had a go a scaling up a picture she saw in an art book.

Please tell me this wasn't paid for???

What a horrible thread.
This picture might not be too your taste, but writing such a thread makes you seem really unpleasant and mean.

There's no form to the creature though - not even a nod towards any study of birds' anatomies. The flames coming off the wings are very childish in execution - more like how a young child would show "shimmer" in a drawing.

This is a Phoenix!

The picture fishface posted looks a lot better than the ops. In that one it looks good.
Theres a big difference between criticism and being mean. Saying "its shit haha the student put so much effort into something shit" is mean. Saying, "the colours arent right, the body needs more definition etc" is criticism. You also criticize to the standard you would expect someone to be, so you wouldn't hold a children's nativity to the same standard as a Broadway show for example. This is a students artwork, its pretty good for a mural in a shopping centre but no its not fantastic. Its a lot better than I could ever do however
The op was just being mean and hoping we would all laugh at the student rather than her work.

Ha just revisited the thread, didn't realise I had been accused of being the artist Grin

Nope! I just don't like meanness! Intellectual critique, fine. But ranting and frothing like that is unnecessary.

Those pictures look quite good compared to some of the crap in the Tate modern.

It would appear that bolting some planks of wood to a wall and concocting a bollocks story to go with it counts as art to some people.

It looks no different to the pile of old fencing waiting for bonfire night in our back garden. I could call it a 'deconstructed bonfire' and write a piece about it representing historical conquer of attempted terrorism and it's influence on the culture of Modern Britain and that would apparatly make it count as art Confused.

The bit of Wolves that I bought a house in certainly had to have a mining report.
