to want to spend £2k on a bed for guest room?

Just that really. I wanted to take advantage of the 30% M&S home event and get a new bed for the guest room we recently decorated. Cost includes Super King divan base, headboard and mattress.

Asked DH his opinion and he says that it's much too expensive for a guest bed and what's wrong with the (crappy Ikea) bed we already have (that creaks horribly when anyone moves on it!). We were planning on getting nice new wardrobes so I think the bed we have will look even more crap with those!

For info, DH has a very good job so we can easily afford it (I'm a SAHM with 2 Primary age kids). I think he's a bit out of touch with how much nice beds cost, or AIBU?

Weird thread.
If you can afford it, buy it.

but there's nowhere to attach handcuffs on that type of bed

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/08/2016 18:36

Lello, maybe there are special hooks on the back that you can attach rope to for when the OP's guests are feeling raunchy.

JessieMcJessie · 30/08/2016 18:37

How much did you spend on your own bed? If less than 2k then I'd get the new one for myself and put my old one in the guest room.

We have an Eve mattress, it's excellent.

Don't get one from Oak Furnitureland, Oak is going to go the same way as pine and look naff soon.

You should be able to get something of excellent quality for less than 2k though as there is a whole world between 2k and IKEA- bed retailers in particular are very competitive and always doing sales and discounts. You are possibly getting a tiny bit over- influenced by Homes & Gardens, yes. But nice to have something top quality for guests if you can afford it and get lots of guests. I love staying with people with posh guest rooms!

PortiaCastis · 30/08/2016 18:37

If there nowhere for handcuffs I don't want a posh coiled bed. I need a bouncy bouncy

greathat · 30/08/2016 18:38

Put your bed in guest room and buy yourself a nice new bed

VanillaSugar · 30/08/2016 18:39

Hi. I spent much more on a bed from Heal's. It was four grand.

And it is now held up by a car jack.

I am not fat. DH is not fat. We do not have rigourous sex. The bed is not as robust as you would expect for four bloody grand.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/08/2016 18:41

Vanilla, that's just not acceptable! Tell your DP he needs to make it up to you! Especially on your special day Wink

VanillaSugar · 30/08/2016 18:43

DH is in the dog house. He'd bloody better make it up to me. Going back on the other thread now.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 30/08/2016 18:45

Can you 'try a bed out' in M&S?

What are their guidelines for this?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/08/2016 18:46

Jess, as long as you put a towel down first, they're fine with it. Wink

totalrecall1 · 30/08/2016 18:52

If you can afford it then buy it

Lelloteddy · 30/08/2016 19:02

Ishouldhavebeen you CAN try a bed in M&S but best to leave the handcuffs at home Blush

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/08/2016 19:03

The police will probably bring their own to M&S...

Whatthefoxgoingon · 30/08/2016 19:12

Our beds cost a lot more, but if you can afford it, why not?

user1469976707 · 30/08/2016 19:16

I think the point of the post has been slightly missed by one or two. It's NOT a "gosh look how much money I have to spend" thing. And I would have just gone and bought it if it were just me.

It was more a "was it really that unreasonable to suggest to my DH that I'd like that bed" post as DH vetoed it and kind of made me feel like I WAS totally OTT (and this is man who thought it was reasonable to spend silly money last year on a road bike he's hardly used!!!)

OP posts:
Whatthefoxgoingon · 30/08/2016 19:19

If he's spent silly money on a bike, feel free to spend whatever you like!

mutters about husband spending £5k on a bloody bike

ginghamstarfish · 30/08/2016 19:20

Why not have the new one and put your old one in the guest room? Seems that's what most people do - at least the ones I stay with!

OpenMe · 30/08/2016 19:23

I'd think it more reasonable to spend £2000 on a bike I presumably intended to use at the time, than a guest bed.

StubbleTurnips · 30/08/2016 19:26

It may be worth checking if there's an m&s furniture outlet near you.... We got our solid sleigh bed from one of their outlets for £400 instead of 1600, super King too!

The link on the front page to factory beds direct is brilliant for mattresses. Would defo recommend.

user1469976707 · 30/08/2016 19:27

The bed in our room needs replacing too and is even older and creakier than the one in the guest room otherwise I would just swap.

LostInMess · 30/08/2016 19:31

We are contemplating spending similar on a spare bed but only because we have lost our spare room to the children, family have to stay and it converts from a desk to a bed so it means we can use the study as a spare room and not keep having to boot the children out of their rooms when people come to stay.

The only way I can justify this expenditure to myself is that it just might save us having to fork out for an extension in due course.

Otherwise am with your DH - it's an insane amount for a spare bed. Spend on a mattress but no need on the frame.

Why has no one picked up on Agains outrageous stealth boast? £76k CASH on a car????? Her DH must be an Irish travelling person what doesn't pay tax.
