to want to spend £2k on a bed for guest room?

Just that really. I wanted to take advantage of the 30% M&S home event and get a new bed for the guest room we recently decorated. Cost includes Super King divan base, headboard and mattress.

Asked DH his opinion and he says that it's much too expensive for a guest bed and what's wrong with the (crappy Ikea) bed we already have (that creaks horribly when anyone moves on it!). We were planning on getting nice new wardrobes so I think the bed we have will look even more crap with those!

For info, DH has a very good job so we can easily afford it (I'm a SAHM with 2 Primary age kids). I think he's a bit out of touch with how much nice beds cost, or AIBU?

user. I apologise for lowering the tone.

It's just the word 'bed'.

It's been a while.

(I mean I sleep on a futon)

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/08/2016 18:07

Jess, we do have a mattress protector but it's still nice not to sleep on a wet patch of bed. I'm picky like that..

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 30/08/2016 18:08

Depending on the bed headboards can be removed and changed. I've changed the headboard on ours every few years as per my whim.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 30/08/2016 18:09

being. Am Confused at 'wet patch'.

Don't drink tea in bed.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/08/2016 18:10

Headboards make a lot of noise...

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/08/2016 18:10

Jess, I'll tell you when you're older. Grin

Donthateprocreate · 30/08/2016 18:11

I have a similar super King and it cost me about £200. I would link it but I can't find it now. I'll keep looking for you though.

PortiaCastis · 30/08/2016 18:12

My head is always sore

sentia · 30/08/2016 18:13

We have a superking but ended up getting two of these in European single size. They are very comfortable and have a 25 year guarantee. Between that and the custom frame from here we have a lovely bed for less than £2k.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/08/2016 18:14

Only your head? You're not doing it right! Wink

PortiaCastis · 30/08/2016 18:15

Depends where my head is

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 30/08/2016 18:17

Am very confused right now. Bed's are for sleeping right? Certain individuals seem to be suggesting there is 'other stuff' you can do in them. Please elaborate.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/08/2016 18:18

Well Jess, when a mummy and a daddy love each other very much...

PortiaCastis · 30/08/2016 18:20

Jess were you asleep in your new bed when your ds was concieved?

lalaland1985 · 30/08/2016 18:20

If you can afford it without sacrificing anything else then why not?

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 30/08/2016 18:22

being and portia

Ohhhhh....

That was a different bed. And I'm pretty sure it didn't cost 2k.

PortiaCastis · 30/08/2016 18:24

Park bench?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/08/2016 18:25

Love dungeon?

AgainPlease · 30/08/2016 18:26

Is this just a post to say how much money you have? If you can afford to buy it, just buy it.

I spent £76,000 (cash) on a new car two weeks ago and didn't feel the need to let MN know all about it in an AIBU post... Hmm

£2k on a bed is a lot of money to a lot of people and you don't need to make them feel shitty about their household incomes.

Sorry if I'm being harsh. I'm hormonal.

T0ddlerSlave · 30/08/2016 18:26

DH is over 6'6 and large. A king size is plenty for us.

ShotsFired · 30/08/2016 18:27

Why don't you put your current bed in the guest room and buy yourselves the new fancy one?

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 30/08/2016 18:27

Plymouth Ho.

Not a misogynist comment. A real place.

ghostyslovesheep · 30/08/2016 18:28

As a guest in hotels etc I dislike upholstered headboards - they make me think of greasy hair stains and grubby stuff (shudders) just get a nice bed and but nice bedding

PortiaCastis · 30/08/2016 18:29

God Jess I know that being as I also live in the nearby Wall

Ninasimoneinthemorning · 30/08/2016 18:30

If you can afford it do it.

Our 'spare' riom is really my room when Dh is snoring, or I'm hot or just want a good nights sleep with out Dh dead weight legs starfishing!

I love my 'spare' room.
