Sharing towels

Lighthearted one here and suspect may be told this is very much a first world problem....

Towels.

When I was growing up we always had our own towels. Not just "own" in terms of not sharing a wet/used towel but I had pink towels, dsis had yellow, mum had green and dad blue. You NEVER used someone else's - helped yourself to a clean one from airing cupboard but always your own colour.

Fast forward to now. My kids have their "own" (distinctive striped/coloured/embroidered but not with a colony rule). DH thinks it's reasonable for him/me just to take any clean towel from the place we store clean towels and use it. This means he's currently got my lovely yellow white company super duper bath sheet. He says that as I've got another towel he can't see the issue. Apparent when he was growing up they just took any clean towel from the airing cupboard.

He thinks I'm weird for wanting "my" towels to be mine. I think he's weird for not wanting his own (we have loads of nice towels - don't get me into him using parts of the matching sets of guest towels.....)

So AIBU or is he?

Another with colour coded towels here. We have two each in our own colours (coordinating!) and they get washed every Saturday morning. It started when someone had an eye infection years ago and we've stuck to it.

Hmm. When DP and I moved in together he had one ratty threadbare towel and I had lots of nice ones so he has commandeered two of mine that he particularly likes (one leopard print and one replica Wimbledon). Those are now 'his' towels and I prefer not to use them as I know how rarely they get washed!

But I am not opposed to sharing CLEAN towels in general.

Hand/face towels get washed twice a week - we have 2 sets.

Bath towels get reused but if you do this too much they smell 'biscuity ' so they go in the wash basket then. We reuse the one we used before and DS has his own cartoon towel anyway.

We hang the towels on the bannister to dry this weather as the towel rad off. I change them a couple of times a week and know which one is mine. Dh washed the dog yesterday and has just put "his" towel back on the rad for the morning. Only for me to point out he'd actually given himself the dog's towel. Sorry op these boys really don't get it. Smile

I don't even own ONE set of matching towels, let alone two.

We have 'nice towels' for us, and we have 'dog towels' for dogs and nice towels eventually become dog towels (usually because someones left them in the washer wet for too long or used them for swimming and trampled them in mud or torn them).

I do go nuts if I catch himself using a 'nice' towel for a not-nice purpose (mopping up DOG WEE or cleaning an animal cage or his bike!!! filthpig) but thats as dramatic as it gets re towels in our house.

Is anyone else finding that the word "towel" now looks and sounds really, really odd?

Ameliablue · 29/08/2016 22:15

As long as it's clean, it doesn't matter.
