To be pissed off at Royal mail

I'm hoping someone can give me examples of good outcomes for Royal Mail compensating for lost parcels.

Bought something off eBay, seller sent out by first class signed for which is fortunate I hope.

Sent out Monday, would expect to receive it by Wednesday at the latest.
By Thursday still not arrived, seller sent me proof, all was true, sent out when and as he should of.
Friday still not here so I track the item, apparently it was delivered the day before but I was in all day, no attempted delivery, no red card but was signed for with initials RM (Royal Mail perhaps 😏).
Sorting office was beyond useless..seller needs to ring from his side so an investigation can be started, but is now getting quite impatient with the emails I'm having to send him and hasn't phoned up.

There's £36 of stuff that's been lost.
I've checked with the neighbours, which came to nothing. Also none with initials RM.

Where do I stand with getting compo for lost items?
If seller stops helping from his side, can PayPal step in?

I have a feeling that you'll lose the case after 8 days as the seller will just say look it was signed for and there's no proof that you didn't just put the initials yourself.

Humpty
Use the the right service for the right item. Pay pennies for the postage and your item has no more significance than the hundreds of pizza leaflets the postie also delivers.
Use another company if you're unhappy. Privatisation folks!
Sorry OP for hijacking your thread.

Izzy so the basic service isn't for mail, only junk leaflets? Good to know. I'll stop using it entirely then (I hardly do anyway) as I'm not paying £5+ to post items just to guarantee they get there.

No problem izzy..

Think I'll just have to put this down to a shit do..it isn't the sellers fault. But I do feel very uneasy about Royal Mail now.
When I went to the sorting office on Friday, i was told they couldn't track it any more than what I have and gave me their customer services number, I asked what they would do for me and the bloke just said "absolutely nothing".

I casually asked our regular postman yesterday if it was him that delivered and I just got a bit of a grunt back and a shrug of the shoulders. So not very helpful!

I reported my postie once for leaving sacks of post unattended on the street, they took him off deliveries and put him to work at the local office (not the post office, the place where you collect undelivered mail from -- sorting office?). After that every single time I had a parcel I wasn't in to sign for returned to the sorting office, the parcel would mysteriously vanish between the original failed delivery and my going to collect it.

RM did not care at all and said there was nothing they could do unless each sender individually made a claim.

Izzy - a fellow RM worker. We never come across well on these threads.
