About my name

bramblesandblackberries · 27/08/2016 14:57

My name is spelled incorrectly at work.

It's a minor misspelling but actually results in a different name (a bit like Louise / Louisa)

AIBU to feel a bit upset about it?

Yes you are, just tell them. Its a typing error, not a personal insult.

bramblesandblackberries · 27/08/2016 15:01

It's not a typing error :) it's a different name!

Get them to fix it.

There are two spellings of my name. I never allow a mistake to stand.

JigglypuffsCaptor · 27/08/2016 15:06

Every company I've worked for have got my surname wrong, just ask HR to change it Smile

Queenbean · 27/08/2016 15:08

How could you POSSIBLY be unreasonable to want to be called by your proper name?

Just ask them to fix it, no drama

Leviticus · 27/08/2016 15:10

It's simple enough to correct so yes, you are being unreasonably upset about it. It's a waste of energy.

bramblesandblackberries · 27/08/2016 15:10

I've asked so many times and it's never done. Really annoying

Tell them, they will sort it. Try having the in-laws (all bil, sil, pil) spelling your name wrong for nearly 10 years! That is frustrating (they even do it when the y can see my name in front of them!)

Hariasa · 27/08/2016 15:12

Where is it wrong brambles?

Email, name badge, payslip?

bramblesandblackberries · 27/08/2016 15:20

All the above Sad

Everyone spells it wrong. I'm prickly about my name, I must admit.

OP posts:
Hariasa · 27/08/2016 15:28

That's really not acceptable.

Speak to HR. Ask what their procedures are for correcting this error and what the timescales are for resolving.

Your IT will probably have a separate process for amending the email.

Be polite, but be firm.

mamas12 · 27/08/2016 15:42

Ok you will have inform HR that this has gone oN far too long and you are no Longer able tO tolerate it. Make a polite email.
Tell them you won't be wearing your name badge as it is not your name and any emails with the wrong name will,be sent back or sent on to them or your boss

Start calling anyone who still persists a different name to what they are
