To think 7.30am on a Saturday is too early for building work?

Our next door neighbours' builders started work 15 minutes ago. WIBU to go over there and tell them it's too early?

Builders always start early. And then are gone by 4. No idea why!

I know noisy work on a Saturday is restricted to between 8am and 1pm not sure about other work

Is it very hot where you are? My builders asked the neighbours if they'd mind work starting super early ( I think 6) during similar weather. They stopped at lunchtime but couldn't afford to lose a full day's wage. We were detached/spaced out & neighbours agreed.
It was so very hot for a physical job outside in the afternoon!

Would have been nice if they had spoken to you before the work started. If it is only once and not every Saturday, today is better as you have two days to recover, most probably.

As for the start time and finish time of builders, it seems to be a custom that they finish by 4 because in the winter it gets dark then. So if we were sensible and adopted French time or CET as it is usually termed, there would not be the issue, as a 730am start would not happen for large parts of the year.

Why not have a word with the neighbours? I got served with notice on this very point and just wished the person who called the council had popped in to talk to me. I wasn't even aware of the timing rule.

When our NDN had builders who started that early, DH remembered there being a line in the planning permission re start time. We checked online and yes it stated they couldn't start work till 8am. Had a gentle word with NDN and solved the problem. Her builders hadn't been aware if the timing on the pp.

It's 8.30 round here for building work and 9.00 for lawn mowing and we're in a village.

Id be knocking on the door, in my PJs and asking them to STFU stop until 8.30.

I had some guys round to do garden clearance the other day. The supervisor came early so we could touch base before I had to go out, but said they couldn't start the actual work until 8am. So I assume that's either the law or local regulations.

It is early yes, but it will be a one off thing so I would personally couldn't get too worked up about it,
It would've been more considerate of them to let you know in advance though.

Oh they're working again today (including some drill) DH reckons I can't moan at them till 6pm. I think: 'It's Sunday! We shouldn't be able to bloody hear anything! '

This is not quite true. Local authorities set times when building noise is considered a nuisance and they can also use planning permission to set specific times on different sites. So what's perfectly fine in one borough might not be in another. Our planning permission allowed us to work between 8am and 6pm on any day of the week.

I would talk to your neighbour now. I don't think professional building on a Sunday is normal at all...
