AIBU sitting TOO close?

Day out today at local beachy type place. Busy but plenty of room for everyone. We settled in with our picnic etc, all good. An hour or so later 2 mums pitched up next to us and proceeded to get closer and closer til basically they were almost on my blanket. Sat facing me too, knobs. AIBU or should they have given us some space (bearing in mind there was plenty the other side, I wasn't hogging shade etc etc)

That's weird. We had this on a not very busy beach, where a huge noisy group rocked up immediately in front of us. They blocked the straightforward route to the sea for us and didn't go in themselves.

Why?

Not so busy that it justified this proximity, believe me I would have not even have sat down if I thought it would be so busy that blankets were basically overlapping!

GOD I HATE THAT!!! Me and hubby went to a lovely country pub for a romantic wedding anniversary next to a lovely log fire. It was mid week so it was empty and this horrible crass couple sat right next to us and started muscling into our conversation.

Luckily I'm menopausal and speak before thinking and I turned to them and said do you mind we're having a couples night out ALONE.

They moved.

We had that last summer on a practically empty beach. Two different families came and each sat close enough to touch.

I get this shit as a single person. The other week l was sitting at a table outside a cafe and a family of four came and surrounded me without so much as a "do you mind"?

I hate that too... beaches especially. Dh thinks I'm being anal but I am instantly wound up by others feeling the need to get so damn close when unnecessary. This year on beach woman next to us (already too bloody close for my liking but hire chairs brolly etc pre-set she had a choice of several all identical) had the nerve to add another seat actually touching mine preventing any reclining then had a smoke. I was seriously peeved! We left.

This is very irritating. Some people are just weird.
My parents take two windbreaks to the beach, one for each side of the blanket, so people can't sit basically on top of you.

I had a family sit to the right of us which didn't bother me too much until they started playing catch with a baseball throwing the ball our way/at us rarther than beside us if that makes sense. considering I had a young baby it put me on edge but then her youngest daughter old enough to know better comes in front of us and starts digging pushing the sand on our food like a dog does. The mother looked at what she was doing said fuck all and carried on playing with her darling boys not giving a flying fuck what her daughter was doing. In the end I told the kid to stop myself a bit after they lost her as she wandered off.

That's just so annoying.
Many years ago my then boyfriend and I went to the cinema. We were the only ones there. Another couple came in and sat right next to us! I said FFS we're moving! And we got up and moved but they were oblivious!

it's like camping. Given up on it. We'd book a super quiet site. Only tent on the site practically and without fail really loud people would pitch their tent next to us and keep us awake all night.

If you're on the pink towel facing them then I would have turned to my family and said very loudly "god all I can smell is feet, it's quite rancid" and then make a show of checking mine and my family's feet for the "smell" I do this on buses when people sit next to you on an empty bus.

These kinds of people just don't take subtle hints. Or I'd do that passive aggressive towel shake previously mentioned. I take a parasol/wind break now and I'd 100% put it up in their face, haaaate space invaders with a passion

A couple of weeks ago I was in the park with my 2 kids. The play area has lots of benches in a line and I was sitting on one of them. All the others were empty. My youngest came and sat with me and had a drink. While he was doing this a woman came and sat on the bench right next to ours, put her toddler on her knee and proceeded to change his nappy. Why do that on the only bench right next to other people, when there were loads free where she and her little one could have had a bit more privacy?!
