Honestly, I could have cried last night.

I was on a late at work, so spent the morning at home. Did a load of chores - changed all the beds, cleaned bathrooms, tidied up, hoovered upstairs and down, walked the dog, a couple of wash loads and made a cottage pie for dinner.

Got in last night just before 9 to an absolute shit tip.

Kids had obviously had the play station out as the cupboard under the TV was open with games and controllers and all sorts of shite spewing out, dog had obviously had a whale of a time digging in the garden as there was mud and grass all over the living room, clean washing was still hanging out on the line and was now wet where it had rained. Kitchen was bombed and no one had saved me any dinner (DH had dished up and instead of dishing me a plate, he'd just dumped the tray with the cottage pie in into the sink, then someone had run water, straight into the cottage pie).

In the midst of all this, DH was lying on the sofa watching TV, having been home since just after 5pm

So I left. And bought myself a bag of chips and had a lovely half an hour on the seafront eating them

He had cleared the place up by the time I got back but was a bit shirty. Was sulky this morning and has just sent a text asking if I'm planning on eating with the family tonight or storming out again.

I was so pissed off with the lot of them last night

I'm envious that you can eat chips by the sea Envy

Seriously thought YANBU! Bloody cheek of your dh text. Send him one back with everything you did yesterday! How old are the Dc?

Bloody well done for not completely losing your shit... I would of gone ballistic. My DH has a way of making out i'm being unreasonable if I get my arse in my hand over something I was right to be pissed off about.

Aww bless you - sounds like my house all the time if I'm not running around picking stuff up, organising and trying my hardest to keep it tidy(ish). Thank goodness you have a seafront though ......... not stupid to be annoyed at all, thoughtless is what it was, all of it - I'd have lost it big time .... Flowers Cake

Yes, so does mine. It's dismissed as me 'moaning'

He'll never apologise if he's wrong either. He just blusters and turns it round to be my fault.

Apparently he didn't dish me up any dinner as he didn't know when I was going to be home.

Last week he forgot to take DD2 to a riding lesson (he got her there eventually, but she missed the first few minutes) - it was my fault apparently as I didn't ring to remind him earlier. Feck off. He has apologised for that one but it's a rare occurrence.

I don't think that him & the kids deserve dinner out with you tbh.

I probably do thoughGrin

How old are the kids?

He was daft to put the pie in the sinl, but what idiot ran water over it??

He put your share of the cottage pie in the sink and then asks whether you'll be eating with them???

Twatbadger. If there was any dinner available, you would have eaten it.

It's also a sad state of affairs that OP's small act of defiance represents heroic behaviour for many of us.

My 10 yr old can make up better excuses than this. I would have been livid if he'd said that stupid man child crap to me.

I would have burst into tears seeing the pie in the sink. I hate waste and I always save leftovers and do my best to use them - and that's just anyway, even more so if someone is on their way home who hasn't had theirs yet! That was just so crap and thoughtless.

The rest is bloody annoying, but families make a mess (and they should clean it up) But the pie couldn't be saved - I'd be so upset!

I know. He knows. He knows I know. I know he knows I know Grin

I just can't actually be arsed to argue about this crap with him anymore. We both know he's been a thoughtless twat, why not just admit that and book a table somewhere nice for tonight.

I don't know....

Not knowing when you'll be home still doesn't explain why it had been dumped in the sink where obviously somebody is going to run water on top of it.

YANBU. I'm sure in his own manmind he feels hard done by, which as we know we will be a complete misconception of the reality.

I had a similar experience this week when DH had the mistaken notion that a day away from work to look after the children was actually a day off...

You walked out? I'd have gone fucking batshit!

In this house, with dp and teen working odd hours and dd2 doing various clubs etc, there are often meals plated up and left in the microwave for whoever is not home. It's just manners surely?

The fact that you had made the food and he couldn't even put some on a plate for you is awful.

Go on strike.

Stuff going out with him for a meal. Take his wallet and go out with someone nice instead.

He can eat leftovers oh wait, there aren't any because he put them in the sink .

YWsooooo NBU. I'd have gone apeshit, probably chucked a few things around the kitchen, sworn a LOT more and THEN fecked off. And for a lot longer than half an hour!

What an utter arse your H is. Seriously, who behaves like that when they're supposed to be an adult? My DH is quite a lot of a man-teen and gets on my nerves exceedingly a lot of the time, but he would never have done that! He would have let the dish in the oven or on top of the stove, never put it in the sink - and my kids/DH would never have run water into it!! (can't get over that. How fucking stupid is that!!)

Hope you get some nice dinner out tonight. Thanks

go out for a meal, just order for yourself and let your family watch you eat.

I would not be putting up with this shit. If you have a son then he is learning to be a lazy fecker and your daughter is learning to be a skivvy. Read Wifework, get him to read wifework. Call a family meeting, clearly explain once your expectations then let them get on with it. there are far too many women putting up with this shit, nowadays so many women work and are still expected to do the housework and plan for the housework and childcare. Then when you get a dh that does their fair share you are told that you're lucky, lucky for being in an equal relationship. That say's it all really.

YADNBU.

Explain to him very slowly that leftovers, to be useful, like most food, need to be stored in a fridge not the fucking sink.

And that's just for starters, disrespectful swine. Hmm

And the alternative was to dump the remainder of the family meal that you prepared into the sink where it was obviously set up to be ruined? Well you're far more dignified than I am. I'd be practically foaming at the mouth that he hadn't had a light bulb moment, realised how thoughtless he's been and apologised rather than carrying on being PA as though he's done nothing wrong.
