There's a car parked on my drive

Arrived home from work to find a car parked on my drive. Thought it might be one of dh's friends but no.

Our drive can fit two cars but the bastard has decided to park at the front of the drive so no chance of parking on the drive and blocking them in like I would like to.

It's making me irrationally angry and I can't stop checking to see if it's gone. Dh doesn't seem to share my annoyance.

Why would anyone decide it's ok to park on someone's drive?!

Cavo our mutually agreeable arrangement doesn't sound like a very good basis for a fight. Just let me know your address and I'll pop around at some point in the next few months and leave cat poo on your doorstep and accidently trample on your hydrangeas ok? And in return, you can accidently scratch my car with a buggy handle.

Then we can have a row about which of us calls 101 just to report it. Ok?

Cavogirl · 25/08/2016 23:40

Awesome !!
Or you could buy a housekeeper on my street and then we can do all of those things !!

Cavogirl · 25/08/2016 23:40

House !

Queenbean · 25/08/2016 23:44

Great! Just give me your address. I'll then check how much you paid and be utterly outraged that the house prices have gone up. Then I'll start a thread asking if it's fair to pay more than a neighbour for a house.

:)

It's a good idea to speak to the Weight Watchers consultant and ask her to do an announcement. Then the Evil Parker can be surrounded by a bunch of people - already emotional cos they've had to ignore their cravings that day - shaking their head in disbelief, going 'who DOES that?!'

husbandnet · 26/08/2016 17:24

call the cops. Sometimes people steal cars then park them up for a couple of days until the police's automatic number plate cameras stop looking. then they drive them again.
at worst (if it's not nicked) it'll embarrass the owner. At best you get someone's car back to them

kateryan · 26/08/2016 17:28

Just read this and have had the same problem in the past. I called the police who said they could do nothing as it's a civil matter, but, did tell me that if I damaged the car I could be charged with criminal damage. The next time it happened police did arrive and contacted the driver who when he arrived was detained by the police for as long as possible by doing vehicle checks dvla checks etc. I would def take a note of the number plate, I still think I would call the police and report them, you never know they might be happy to assist. You can always state you have young children and you are not happy with a stranger on your property. Wish you luck. ps don't think there's a law against you taking pictures and putting them on FB.

Id be super annoyed too! Can you go knock on your neighbours door to find the driver and get them to move??

trelawney59 · 26/08/2016 17:42

As a child someone did this at our house my father managed to jack the car and manoeuvre it down the road under the cover of nightfall. Countryside cul de sac. No damage to the car. Never did it again though.

Lweji · 26/08/2016 17:42

Yes, OP, why don't you go and knock on your neighbour's door? Right now.
And call the police

And while you're at it, cancel the blooming cheque.

Footle · 26/08/2016 17:42

Twobobs, are you completely bonkers ? Just asking..

ohh · 26/08/2016 17:45

I'd be tempted to let the tyres down or at least one as gives you a chance to interrogate. As you can't park across it. Or photograph it with phone and put a polite but to the point note on windscreen.

Alohamora · 26/08/2016 17:46

Does anyone else remember the thread where a random parked on an OP's drive to attend a school fete? The OP went to the school who made an announcement but no one owned up. The OP went home and blocked the car in and waited....

Next day the door is knocked and there is a man with his tearful wife in tow. She'd parked there and was too embarrassed to admit it was her and just left the car there when she saw it was blocked in. Think she hoped her DH would get it back for her but he made her come too to apologise. He was not happy at her being so daft as to park on someone else's drive!

Lweji · 26/08/2016 17:49

I missed that one. Sad

But there was the one where the NDN (next door neighbour) helped block the car? Or did he move it? I forget.

If only the OP on this one knew where the owner had been to...

I wonder if there are any updates... Wink

TiredBefuddledRose · 26/08/2016 17:55

Maybe invest in a big tub of sudocreme so if it happens again you can write "THIS IS A PRIVATE DRIVE" in big letters across the windscreen

blitheringbuzzards1234 · 26/08/2016 17:58

Buy a four pack of Nobbly Bobblies and swipe them all over the windscreen.

Horsemad · 26/08/2016 17:58

Get yourself a wheel clamp!

2kids2dogsnosense · 26/08/2016 18:03

Bung small potato uptake exhaust pie and let nature take its course.

FurryLittleTwerp · 26/08/2016 18:03

If she was at WW, most likely she'll be back next week - make sure you're ready...

Saffy38 · 26/08/2016 18:07

Hi.
I completely understand your pain....I have driven myself utterly mad with the same problem!!
We live opposite a hospital and had to get a drive and dropped kerb put in as soon as we moved into this new house because all the nurses/Drs/Patients all park outside people's houses down our road......
Did that stop people????? Did it heck!!! We had to keep calling the police who told us to stick signs on their windscreens (politely) asking them to refrain from blocking our drive; which we were doing. Do you know what, one day we had a really annoyed, big, scary man smashing at our door saying that the sellotape had messed up his windscreen and that we should get some washing up liquid to clean it off!!!! Also, another lady who had decided to park across our drive when we were out one day, we'd blocked her in when we got back and she had the nerve to knock on our door, saying that we had inconvenienced her by blocking her in!!!!!!! We asked her if she thought that she had inconvenienced us by parking across our drive!!!! WTF is wrong with people!!
Unfortunately if there are no cars on your drive at the time, then they are legally allowed to park there, but they are not allowed to actually block you in if you have your car on the drive!! It was happening so many times to us that the police told us to call the parking attendants to get a ticket put on their cars - remember though, they can only ticket their car if they have blocked you in.
Good luck

Mreva · 26/08/2016 18:15

God, I hope she isn't cheeky/rude enough to do the same next week.

At least if she does I have lots of ideas for revenge Grin I do like nobbly bobblies far too much to waste them though...

I still can't get my head around why someone would think it is ok.

Lweji · 26/08/2016 18:17

If she does it next week, just go to the WW's meeting and tell her she forgot to take the last slice of the cake you've just shared at your place where she left the car.

Also, mention something about a friend with a tow truck popping by.

flowergrrl77 · 26/08/2016 18:21

Could also just call the police!

glowfrog · 26/08/2016 18:23

Sunscreen actually leaves permanent marks on most car paints. Discovered that when couldn't wash off DC's hand print from the side of ours!

jacqroberts68 · 26/08/2016 18:26

I know someone who did this once he'd arranged it with the homeowners, unfortunately he parked on the wrong drive. They saw the funny side though....eventually.
