to choose to be inside on a hot sunny day?

I'm sitting inside in my relatively cool house, the kids are too and are finishing watching a film. Got this nagging guilt feeling we should be outside because it's such fine weather. But it's too hot! We've been out this morning briefly. I can almost hear my mum's voice saying we should be out making the most of it! AIBU?

I am in and the kids are watching a movie they won't even play in the garden because they say they are too hot! It is also too hot for me. We were out in the sun yesterday and I got a little burnt so staying out of the sun today!

I am South West London and there's a cloud Angry

It's not too warm here today but yesterday DS and I went skating too. He has wanted to go for a while, I had childcare for DD, so why not?

Eyedrophell · 24/08/2016 15:41

33 where we arw. One Ds asleep, the other watching TV. Far too hot. Might head to park after dinner.

PeggyMitchell123 · 24/08/2016 15:41

I am inside. We spent yesterday outside in the sun til around half 2 and it was getting too much. Took ds swimming earlier but we have been in most of the afternoon.
Much cooler and ds has managed to have a long nap.

clarkeologist · 24/08/2016 15:41

We are at local soft play today as figured it might be quiet with everyone else enjoying the sun. There are only 5 kids here including mine Grin. The air con is on and they are wearing themselves out while I'm mumsnetting reading an improving book

Tastesjustlikecherrycola85 · 24/08/2016 15:47

YANBU, doing exactly the same here!

Queenbean · 24/08/2016 15:48

I've got the day off and wish that I wanted to go outside.... But I don't. I don't have a garden so would have to go to a public park and it's already so hot indoors that I really don't want to be in the direct sunshine

I don't want to be one of those English people moaning about it being too hot..... But it's too hot

insan1tyscartching · 24/08/2016 15:49

We're all inside here and have been all day. I ventured outside briefly to peg out the washing. Don't like the sun or the heat so it's pretty typical for here when it gets hot.

Vintagegirl1 · 24/08/2016 15:52

Yanbu! I waited in all morning for a delivery (didn't come obviously) and then dragged myself out for an hour long walk this afternoon because I felt I should. It was too hot,I got chased by a wasp and had chub rub. I hate summer, loathe the heat and can't abide the bbq's that everyone else seems obsessed with. Autumn is by far my favourite month!

dudsville · 24/08/2016 15:53

Isn't there a morrisey song about this?

I like to be out. I like to be in. I don't understand where this pressure comes from. I grew up in a sunny place. There was a mild reluctance to go out when it was raining, but nothing like the sense of responsibility here "to go out and make the most of it (giant sun burnt manic grin emoticon)!".

If I'm in when it's sunny I do different things to when I'm in and it's rainy. Is that the case for anyone else? I'll tend to watch old films on rainy days but get on with projects on sunny ones.

It's 45c here today and I've been at the Waterpark. It's been lovely.

Katedotness1963 · 24/08/2016 15:55

I am inside with the shutters closed and the fan on. Kids just came in from playing football and they're sweating and complaining of the heat.

SeamstressfromTreacleMineRoad · 24/08/2016 15:59

Where are you all..?? Confused It's been grey and overcast all day here - with a slight breeze. I opened the windows when I got up and I've shut them again now, as my nose was feeling really cold..! I'm in Worcestershire - so where's the sun..???

Monkeyinshoes · 24/08/2016 16:00

YANBU. It's 32 here. We're inside, fan on, kids eating ice cream and watching Netflix/playing games. Went to grandmas this morning (and got home a sweaty mess after the drive back) so haven't been stuck in all day but the only thing outside now is my washing.

ProfYaffle · 24/08/2016 16:11

Seamstress - I'm in Norfolk. Last time I saw the temperature it was 33 degrees.

SpookyPotato · 24/08/2016 16:15

Felt like 30c in the sun in Yorkshire today, it was unbearable.. Couldn't wait to get back in to an iced drink, fan and a cool dark room!

IAmALeafOnTheWindWatchHowISoar · 24/08/2016 16:21

I'm cheating as I'm in the UAE and this is my waterpark Grin

Waterworld

Mynestisfullofempty · 24/08/2016 16:22

I'm indoors and I have the fan on (which I feel guilty about, since my husband doesn't grasp the concept of feeling too hot and begrudges the electricity). We just walked to a local shop but it was 'orrible. No breeze at all and I just feel sticky and dirty.

Mynestisfullofempty · 24/08/2016 16:23

Oh, and I'm in East Sussex, for Seamstress's info.

wineoclockthanks · 24/08/2016 16:26

Just had to pick up from the station and this is the temp in my car - you are definitely NBU

to choose to be inside on a hot sunny day?
MariposaUno · 24/08/2016 16:27

Yanbu. I have spent a glorious day hiding in my dark bedroom on occasion when I just cba with the world.

On nice days I'm only bothered if I am able to get a good load of washing out and choose whether to wash my car or cut the grass.

gamerwidow · 24/08/2016 16:28

I usually hate wasting sunny days indoors but today is a heatwave level 3 warning which means it's too hot to be outside between 11-3 unless you really have to be.
In this case stay in and keep cool.

wineoclockthanks · 24/08/2016 16:28

In Kent btw

uppie · 24/08/2016 16:33

Where are you all? Grey and overcast here in South Wales!
