to choose to be inside on a hot sunny day?

I'm sitting inside in my relatively cool house, the kids are too and are finishing watching a film. Got this nagging guilt feeling we should be outside because it's such fine weather. But it's too hot! We've been out this morning briefly. I can almost hear my mum's voice saying we should be out making the most of it! AIBU?

YANBU i'ts your summer, enjoy what is best for you.

I prefer being outside. Took the kids to the park early this morning, and I am now on my laptop in the garden, IN THE SHADE not being very efficient in writing my report, the kids are in the paddling pool. There is a little breeze, it feels cooler outside somehow. Will wait another hour before going in the sun. I do love summer.

Gardencentregroupie · 24/08/2016 15:19

I've spent loads of time outside with DD this summer, there have been lots of days where the temperature has been between 20 and about 23 degrees. That's lovely. It's about 30, humid and still here. I hate it, DH hates it, DD went out into the garden and came straight back inside. We'll be out again when it's cooled down a bit.

witsender · 24/08/2016 15:20

I would. The kids have been in the shade all day. I've been at work, but am now taking them for a swim at my folks' place.

Specialapplek · 24/08/2016 15:20

YANBU. It's 31 degrees in London. That's about 6 degrees too hot if you ask me. I'm 32 weeks pregnant and absolutely miserable.

HornyTortoise · 24/08/2016 15:21

Its too hot and stuffy today, it really needs to thunder too as I have a thunderheadache.

I am sat with all of the windows open and cannot catch even a slight bit of breeze and feel a bit like I am stuck in a sauna /s0b

GDarling · 24/08/2016 15:23

Yes inside too, watching Jungle Book, fan on, towel on leather sofa.. Or I won't be able to detach myself from it later!! Iced water in hand, relaxing......
Best place to be, I'll walk Naked along the beach this evening, when the mad people have gone home
( Naked is the name of our dog!! ) ;))

StarkintheSouth · 24/08/2016 15:23

I thought I was the only one who got stressed by this... I can't really enjoy the sun too much as it makes my feet swell!!! Thanks pregnancy... So I'm sat inside enjoying work's aircon/a shitty little fan at home...

cherryplumbanana · 24/08/2016 15:23

HornyTortoise

In my house, it works better if I close all the windows which are in the sun, pull the curtains and only open when the air get fresher at night.

Fitzsimmons · 24/08/2016 15:26

YANBU. Am currently staying in the Loire Valley where it is 36 degrees so we drove two hours to the coast where it was forecast to be 10 degrees cooler and it was totally worth it.

Crispsheets · 24/08/2016 15:28

31 degrees here in London and it's unbearable.

ChairRider4 · 24/08/2016 15:29

36c here by Stanstead airport .We are indoors

ProfYaffle · 24/08/2016 15:30

We're the same - kids won't go in the paddling pool as the garden's to hot even in the shade. We'll go out there later and eat dinner when it's cooled down a bit.

KayTee87 · 24/08/2016 15:30

Yanbu - I walked 5 miles into town with my 3 week old baby earlier. Was sweaty and knackered by the time I finished - now I'm going to go for a nap in my cool bedroom with the baby!

Ntinyn · 24/08/2016 15:32

I'm with you. I'm pregnant and too hot to go out. Dd been amusing herself indoors. Have niggly feeling too. Need to post a letter though and dreading the sweaty walk.

RatOnnaStick · 24/08/2016 15:32

YADNBU. I and my children all get stroppy, uncomfortable and bad tempered in the heat.

furryminkymoo · 24/08/2016 15:32

I am sat inside with the blinds down, I am trying to work, doing conference calls etc (mostly distracted by MN though), Will go outside later, its 31 outside, to hot for me.

The blinds are lovely Day/night ones and are thermal so having them closed all day really keeps the house cool. will open them tonight.

Has anyone tried the Ice in front of fan trick? does it work? DD's room is currently 26c.

WhooooAmI24601 · 24/08/2016 15:33

I spent 3 hours this morning digging and weeding the front garden. It looks beautiful now but I cannot go back out til it cools off. DCs were out with me while I gardened, one is upstairs building with lego, the other is under the ceiling fan colouring in. I feel like a bit of a failure as a parent for letting them doss but they don't want to move any more than I do. Even the dog can't be bothered to stare longingly at her lead for a walk when it's this warm.

KayTee87 · 24/08/2016 15:33

Oh and it's currently only 20 odd where I am Grin

HRMumness · 24/08/2016 15:33

YANBU. We went out first thing this morning and were heading back home by 1pm so we can spend a bit of time in the house where it is cool. It's absolutely baking out. I'm Australian and this is what I would usually do in the Summer (unless I was at the beach / friend's pool) if I didn't have to be at school or work. I'm also very fair so hate being out in the very hot sun as I burn to a crisp.

bloodyteenagers · 24/08/2016 15:34

Just peaked over 32 here. There is no breeze. I am staying in doors where I can breathe. Son went out earlier, came
Back in and grounded me. Said he struggled and he's not asthmatic.

wherethefuckisthefuckingtuna · 24/08/2016 15:35

YANBU. It's too bloody hot for me.

I don't cope well in the heat generally. Am also preggers, so exhausted anyway!

CafeCremeMerci · 24/08/2016 15:35

I'm irritated because I want to go out but the 11 year old needs to do some work & is pissing about. I'm about to thwack her over the head with something big & heavy. She. Will. Not. Shut. Up. I'm losing my patience.

However, silver lining is she has an ice skating lesson later & I'm actually looking forward to going to the rink for an hour or so!

Plus she's really a great kid, she's just hot & bored & this work has to be done now or we'd go out & play with the sprinkler.

GastonsPomPomWrath · 24/08/2016 15:37

Ah you see its only a meagre 28 here Hmm

still too fucking hot

3littlefrogs · 24/08/2016 15:37

Most people in hot countries tend to stay inside during the hottest part of the day. It is just common sense. That is why people have siestas, long lunch breaks and stay up later in the evening.

(Mad dogs and Englishmen and all that).

PersianCatLady · 24/08/2016 15:38

When the last hot spell happened about a month ago I got sunstroke and / or a stomach bug at the same time.

My Mum who loves the sunshine kept coming round and opening the curtains and telling me that I would feel so much better outside.

Honestly she made me feel so guilty for being indoors but I really didn't want to sit outside with my bucket puking up so all my neighbours could hear me.

I really don't understand this attitude where other people can make you feel guilty for doing what you want to do.
