To those who have been in both sides of the spectrum.

OP posts:

Look younger thinner, because my face becomes more heart shaped with a narrow jaw. Eyes look even bigger, too.

I look my age at a normal weight, because my face is now oval, it's more balanced.

bluesbaby · 22/08/2016 20:07

But I'm not old enough to have wrinkles yet Grin I'm only 30, so that probably makes a difference.

WhooooAmI24601 · 22/08/2016 20:09

I lost a lot of weight after having DS2 and went all gaunt-faced like Kate Moss for a while; I even had a cheekbone for a moment.

I'm size 12 now and curvy, and look far younger. But it's probably more to do with eating well, taking care of my skin and drinking loads of water, none of which I did in my twenties.

stopgap · 22/08/2016 20:17

I'm thin, but was blessed with apple cheeks, so never look gaunt. And Restylane on the verge of 40 helps with the under eye hollows, which, alas, remain no matter if I'm 8.5 stone or pregnant at 10.5 stone.

ginorwine · 22/08/2016 21:04

Thin - better for body / clothes
Weight on for face
I'm thinking slim fit me and maybe a couple of subtle fillers !! If can afford !

YorkieDorkie · 22/08/2016 21:07

I was much bigger when I graduated and I look back and think I look younger now!

JellyBelli · 22/08/2016 21:10

Thin suited me when I was young, but now I'm older I look better carrying an extra 2 stone. Thats not something I'd ever thought I'd say.

RowenaDahl · 22/08/2016 21:20

Thin. Not that I have ever been particularly lardy but last year I was a bit heavier and I thought it was ageing.

We were also on holiday recently and I was thinking how being overweight ages women. Saw so many fat and frumpy women who looked uncomfortable walking about.

Thefitfatty · 23/08/2016 06:46

I really think the thin/fat face thing is heavily dependent on face shape. I have a round face with high cheek bones. I would have to either lose or gain a hell of a lot of weight for it to make even a slight appearance on my face.

The only thing that makes a difference, I suppose, is health. I look paler and more tired thin, and pasty and spotty really big. I'm great at the half way point, rosy cheeked and bright eyed.

I think healthy looks best. If you're a size that's unhealthy for your body and causing you to engage in unhealthy activities (too much dieting or exercise, or too much junk and sitting on your arse), it's going to show in your face.

Motherfuckers · 23/08/2016 06:49

My big fat face looks very young, my big fat arse looks very old. I choose face.

Shrekkles · 23/08/2016 06:58

Thin - not too thin though - and a bit of Botox and light fake tan does wonders. Sounds very towie but I assure you these things can look au naturel if done modestly!

PrimalLass · 23/08/2016 07:28

Half a stone can put 10 years on my age body-wise (that classic middle age spread stomach) and take 10 years off face-wise. As soon as I hit a size 12 my face lines get a lot worse.

But I hate my gut entering a room before I do, so am losing it again and will sort my face out later!

NavyandWhite it is a fine balance for me. Too fat and I look old and jowly, at a size 12 my marionette lines are too deep, but at anything more than a 12 my mid section and arms look middle aged.

LellyMcKelly · 23/08/2016 11:43

As Joan Collins once said, "After 40, you can have your face or your figure, but you can't have both." I think your face looks younger if you're carrying a little bit of weight as it fills out the cracks, but you're figure looks younger if you're thinner. That said, we're talking a difference of about 10lbs, not 4 stone.

CoolToned · 23/08/2016 11:56

Yeah, I think I looked young two years ago when I was ten pounds overweight. Now that I am 30 pounds overweight, I'm looking closer to my age.

OP posts:
Crunchymum · 23/08/2016 12:24

I look about the same age I did a decade ago.

I was a size 8-10 in 2017 and I am now a size 16-18.

Crunchymum · 23/08/2016 12:25

2007 (I wish I could be an 8-10 in 2017!!)

RoboticSealpup · 23/08/2016 12:31

When I was pregnant, a doctor at the hospital thought I was in my early twenties. I was 32. Then the weight dropped off and I was thinner than ever for the first year of DDs life. When I look at holiday photos from that year I look like shit my age. I'm trying to gain a free pounds now because it definitely makes me look healthier and younger.

BrendaFurlong · 23/08/2016 12:31

I'm fat.
Apparently I look a lot younger than my actual age.

As Miranda says, Fat Don't Crack.

(Still losing the weight though - would rather look my age and be a reasonable size. 5 stone lost so far. Another... few to go.)

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 23/08/2016 12:38

@Yorkieheaven:
People who comment on others being too thin are generally envious and trying to make themselves feel better about not being thin. Thin is better - it's about clothes and the fact that you look as if you have not let yourself go or pigged out.

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 23/08/2016 12:38

Make up can sort the face issue.

JaneJeffer · 23/08/2016 12:55

Here's the ballerina smiling, no makeup and I think she looks lovely. Her face has real character. Wrinkle free doesn't necessarily mean beautiful IMO.

Do you look younger thin or slightly plump/plump?
thepenguinsrock · 23/08/2016 13:13

When I'm thin I look aged and awful. I prefer 12-14 me than 8-10 me 100% ☺

blueshoes · 23/08/2016 14:26

Definitely look better thin. Face is slimmer with cheekbones. Body has got a defined waist and flatter abdomen. I have to take more care of my face (late 40s) and moisturise religiously to keep the wrinkles at bay.

When I look at photos of others when they were younger and then older, I feel the most aging thing is the fact that their face and body are thicker and lose definition.
