My friend buys a senior ticket for the cinema and shes only 54!

I know its none of my business, but I just feel really guilty! We went to the cinema and she bought one. They didn't ask for ID. I mentioned it to her afterwards and she said, well I am practically a senior and it's cheaper. She has this mindset that she counts as a senior because she doesn't work anymore (due to disability) so often says she feels like she is retired. Her hair is now entirely gray, and she laughs and says yes, now I never get questioned about being a senior! Aside from the fact that I was unknowingly with her when she did it and was on edge the whole time, the cinema prices actually ARE extortionate. So in a way I can see her reasoning.

AIBU or just be happy she can get away with it?

Because I was there and I was afraid we were going to get 'caught'. Stupid I know! I should probably lighten up but it felt like when I was 13 trying to sneak in to a 15

There are much worse crimes and if the cinema don't ask for ID to prove your age they probably don't care a great deal either.

My Mum will order an oap discount fish and chips because she can't eat a full portion is this wrong too

I doubt if they will through you out in the street and tell you never to darken their doors again. I would neither be worried nor happy; its her choice. Dissapointingly, I have never been asked for proof on age!

I felt complicit in the lie when I didn't choose to be. They have security on the door at this cinema so I suppose I feel on edge when I am in there, regardless of whether she's buying a cheaper ticket or not.

If she bought the ticket and, in effect, made a false declaration about her age it's a bit unlikely that you'd be in trouble for simply being an 'accomplice'. Perhaps, in the most moral of universes, you should have ratted her out but Odeon Cinemas have probably got bigger fish to fry.

My mother asked cinemas about whether they check ID for senior tickets, I think she had just turned 60 or whatever age you have to be. They told her they never ask, it wouldn't be appropriate or good customer service to ask older women their ages(!) Let your friend do as she pleases.

I have purchased DD tickets to a 15 film - she's 14

I have recently allowed DS on a height restricted adventure and he's not quite tall enough

I put extra rubbish in next doors bin (2 v 5 residents)

I tell the local rubbish dump I'm more local (just outside area) it's closer.

I've taken the dog on the beach prior to the 5.30 time restriction

I have been given incorrect change and not reported it !

They often do discounts for disabled people and their carers. I think you're overreacting, but if you're not comfortable with it either dont go again or buy your own ticket.

If she's not able to work due to disablity then I don't think you can begrudge her for wanting to save a couple of quid?

well, I feel it's immoral. If I were you I'd have to say something. She's a long way off 60 and being unemployed is not a reason to lie and take something you are not entitled to.

Wow, you don't sound like much of a friend begrudging your disabled friend a couple of pounds off a cinema ticket. And being on edge about it?

I paid £36 for two tickets to see Life on the Road yesterday in London. If it wasn't for the fact I was up the duff. Might have tried this trick myself.

I wouldn't be on the edge of my seat about it but I'd think she was cheap and grabby. If she doesn't want to pay the ticket price she doesn't have to go.

I wouldn't do or say anything about it but I'd be thinking it.

Whatslovegottodo I'd never take a carers discount if I wasn't entitled to it. If I were caught they might take the discount away or real carers might face extra hurdles at the box office, such as proof of carers allowance etc.

I probably wouldn't have felt so about it if she'd said before we got to the till but you are all right, it's done now and I know for future so I probably won't feel so conflicted about it all!

I totally see your point OP. I too feel uncomfortable about people claiming discounts/benefits they're not entitled too and would have felt quite surprised and awkward in that situation. Is there perhaps a disability benefit she could get? So I empathise but it's not really your problem. As pp have said I guess you just get on with it and you buy your ticket and let her do what she wants with hers.
