to think 25 pounds for a mot retest that took 5 mins is expensive

Failed on a minor thing, I went round the corner to buy a part (as was four times cheaper) fitted it myself and the retest took 5 mins.

All fine apart from the retest cost of 25, aibu to think this is steep?

I think it might be normal when you take the car away and fix the problem yourself.

Birdsgottafly · 20/08/2016 17:19

No it isn't, because they are duty bound to give the car a once over, again.

Mechanics/Plumbers/Gas Engineers and Electricians have you over a barrel.

madhurjazz · 20/08/2016 17:24

But they didn't do the whole car a once over, it was just 5 mins.

you are going to a crap MOT centre/garage.

Most MOT centres do not charge for a retest. (this is the first time that I have heard of one that does)

this site Shows MOT retesting procedures and has a list of what they cannot charge for.

But I have never paid for a retest that was within the 10 days.

OtherBarry · 20/08/2016 17:32

I was told they had to charge you if you take it away and bring it back for the retest but not if you leave it with them

ilovesooty · 20/08/2016 17:34

Presumably you asked about the retest fee before you asked them to undertake the task?

calamityjam · 20/08/2016 17:39

I thought you had 14 days or something like that to get the work done. I have never paid for a retest in the 20 years I have been driving.
