Buttered sandwiches

Please help me and my DP with this. He's just made a sandwich for me. Do you butter both pieces or just the 1?

Both

dementedma · 20/08/2016 14:36

Can't bear butter when in a hot sandwich like bacon. Yuk. All greasy and slippery.
With cold sandwiches, butter the bottom and not the lid.

HeddaLettuce · 20/08/2016 14:36

I've always buttered both unless it's gravy then it's none

you make gravy sandwiches?

BewtySkoolDropowt · 20/08/2016 15:05

whipped cream is completely different to butter

The difference between whipped cream and butter is about a minute. Two, tops...

JellyBelli · 20/08/2016 15:10

Neither. salad cream on one, mayo and mustard on the other.

FoxesOnSocks · 20/08/2016 15:16

I'm sorry, what? Salad cream AND mayonnaise AND mustard.

Shock
neveradullmoment99 · 20/08/2016 15:18

Just the one. Unless peanut butter or cheese spread.

neveradullmoment99 · 20/08/2016 15:20

Do you butter a roll just on one side? I do.

Costacoffeeplease · 20/08/2016 15:29

In consistency

noeffingidea · 20/08/2016 15:40

It comes down to individual preference, surely.
If it's a dry filling I butter both sides, thinly (and I am not a lover of butter or other fatty substances).
If its a 'wet' filling - cream cheese, houmous, chutney, or something with mayonaisse mixed in I don't use butter.
Personally I have never heard of only buttering one slice, and don't see how it would work. Do you have to hold the sandwich upright to prevent it falling apart?
Lastly, using mayonnaise instead of butter (as a spread) is rank, imo.

Justwanttoweeinpeace · 20/08/2016 15:43

Neither. Mayo (or other condiment depending on filling) on both.

Oysterbabe · 20/08/2016 15:46

Both as long as it's actually butter and not some kind of spread

SlimCheesy2 · 20/08/2016 15:51

both so the innards don't spill out.

Allalonenow · 20/08/2016 16:18

Both slices buttered, keeps the filling in place.

The only variations I have are for smoked salmon sandwiches when I use cream cheese instead of butter, and bacon sandwiches when I dip one slice of bread and don't use butter at all.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 20/08/2016 17:02

I butter both sides unless using pate or jam or something.

My children don't like butter. Weirdos.

StarryIllusion · 20/08/2016 17:14

Both spread thinly.

madein1995 · 20/08/2016 17:35

Butter on both sides, even if the sandwich also has mayo

MerchantofVenice · 20/08/2016 18:13

I don't judge those who only butter one side (or even those maniacs who think butter has no place in a sandwich! ?) - but you should be aware that you're being weird...

It's fine to, say, prefer your roast dinner without gravy - but don't start pretending that's normal. Same applies here I'm afraid.

Roussette · 20/08/2016 19:24

I totally judge unbuttered bread! Grin

ImNotJoeMyNameIsHarry · 20/08/2016 21:47

HeddaLettice I do when I have left over gravy or with potato in. Not just randomly but it's quite common to have a chips and gravy sandwich here so if I'm going to put gravy on I don't butter.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 20/08/2016 21:49

One side , DH does both

ImNotJoeMyNameIsHarry · 20/08/2016 21:49

Also I do the shopping for our house so I know what type of butter it is lacto free because I'm selfish and my Dp cant tell the difference

OK, the though of chips with gravy on in a sandwich is now making me feel really rather ill. I obviously shouldn't have looked at this thread on a Monday morning.

JudyCoolibar · 22/08/2016 10:29

Agh, thought not though.

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 22/08/2016 10:33

Sandwiches without butter? Or buttered but only on one side? Wrong! Sandwiches should be liberally buttered on both sides, right to the crust (or edge if you've cut the crusts off).
