I got sunburnt at the weekend (didn't have enough with me to cover lo and me so smothered him and wasn't able to buy any more) , it's now rather itchy and I really want to peel it off will this make it less itchy or more?

Don't peel will make it much worse. However this is almost impossible advice to follow.

Moisturise it a lot, again and again. It will help with the itch and stop it feeling so peely. We have a vat of green aloe vera slime which I coat DH in when he fails to protect himself properly (fool).

is it still painful? I think you can take ibuprofen for it if so, otherwise lots of aftersun and avoid peeling if possible

Ibuprofen for the inflammation, sliced tomato (trust me - the acid helps the itch and pain, esp if straight out of the fridge), aloe vera gel, zinc cream. This will cool you down, add water to the skin and soothe the itch. (Very pale Australian)
