Aibu to ask what the hell it is and why the hell anyone would wear a perfume that smells like a sanitary pad? And why would anyone manufacture a perfume that smells like a sanitary pad? Confused

I'm thinking it might be dry shampoo then because her hair is lovely and always looking styled.

HateSummer you know you don't mean this. You've been guilted into paying a completely insincere compliment to a total stranger who can't possibly be identified just because some people on this thread have called you a meanie.

Ignore them. Some scents are disgusting and there is nothing controversial about pointing that out.

You could be on to something though. I used dry shampoo yesterday and it smelled like cheap sweets. The cat must have liked it because he woke me at 3am licking my head.

MilkyChops · 18/08/2016 08:49

Since when do they do secnted sanitary towels. I must be out the loop. I'll stick to Wilkos brand.

3luckystars · 18/08/2016 08:50

I cannot bear the smell of sanitary towels! I had 2 miscarriages last year and felt like I was wearing pads for months! I was really. I can't even walk down that aisle in the shop because the smell gets of them gets to me so much.

She could actually be wearing a pad every day for loads of reasons . Could you ask her what perfume she is wearing to see. I don't know what you can really do about it though! At least she doesn't smell of sweat, that's worse.

Kenduskeag · 18/08/2016 09:18

To those that seem unaware - yes, Always have begun scenting their towels. They had an awful advert which showed a lady getting up on the train and walking to the toilet, her hips at the head-height of all the other passengers. The advert helpfully reminded us that we stink and should definitely be blasting them with their flowery stench instead. It was quite widely criticised at the time, but they have not backed down.

I had to stop using Always once they started scenting them. The smell hits you in the supermarket aisle, it's like walking past Lush. Then I did the same as you, OP - walked past a lady at school-pickup and thought "Your perfume smells like Always. I hope I can avoid that perfume."

But it turns out that a) it's the pad, others can smell the scent, and b) it's potent enough to be smelled at head/neck height.

I am now boycotting Always until they remove the scent, because now I know how badly it smells and many women will recognise it.

Bodyform are admittedly pretty crap, but hey - unscented.

StarryIllusion · 18/08/2016 09:40

Its lilac I think and the perfume actually existed first. Believe it or not someone actually thought we wanted our fanjos to smell of perfume.

specialsubject · 18/08/2016 09:44

I cant stand most perfumes and do find them as nasty as body odour. Fortunately have never had to share an office with a smelky person.

Perfume that can be smelt by anyone not very close is offensive. Not sure what can be done though.

teta · 18/08/2016 10:58

Lovely and the Narcisso Rodriguez Musk range smell like pants on my skin.As does even some Frederick Malle.I blame it on a certain synthetic musk molecule that's pretty prevalent in perfumes.

Someone passed me wearing Angel the other day. It took me back to the 90s and not in a good way.

Sallystyle · 18/08/2016 11:13

There's threads here all the time moaning about someone's perfume. Usually they don't get a hard time like you did OP.

I love Angel perfume. I wear it when I go out for the night. Day time I wear hypnotic poison or poison girl and I get loads of compliments. Angel needs a tiny tiny spray if not you will stink a room out for hours!

I have no idea why you got such a hard time for posting this thread.

HateSummer · 18/08/2016 13:31

If nobody blurted out what they thought on a chatting forum then it would be a pretty bleak place Hmm

And to the poster who thinks I've made a fake compliment about her hair..wtaf..I'm not even going to justify myself with a comment on that one. I'm not new to MN or forums: the miserable comments won't really affect me tbh Grin

And thanks to all Those wondering why I'm getting a hard time!

That was me and I made the comment as a joke because I felt you'd crumbled in the presence of the disapproval of some others on this thread and was offering my support.

I apologise if my joke was too subtle for you. You obviously don't need any help standing up for yourself.

I still maintain that comments such as her 'her hair is lovely' are insincere and damning with someone with faint praise after saying she smells of cheap scent.

Which I'm sure she does.

HateSummer · 18/08/2016 16:17

Well do forgive me for not "getting" your "joke"...it must have got lost on me amongst all the crappy comments.

And some posters have temerity to suggest people here take things too seriously. The OP has been jumped on for no real reason other than for sport. Pitiful.

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 18/08/2016 16:24

...the temerity...

DelicatePreciousThing1 · 18/08/2016 16:26

However, I think the horrible perfume Opium smells like sick. Ewwwww

toadgirl · 18/08/2016 16:42

Was the sanitary pad made to smell like a perfume?
Or was a perfume made to smell like a sanitary pad?

The old chicken/egg situation applies here, I think!

toadgirl · 18/08/2016 16:46

.

It smells like a girl at work uses the Always sanitary pad scent...
PortiaCastis · 18/08/2016 16:59

Some ladies would be very grateful for any kind of sanitary towels. Also other ladies would be vey grateful for a period because theg have made a little slip up.
Other ladies are ttc and don't want a period.
But you can bet your pants the idea of scenting sanpro was conceived by a man.

JanetStWalker · 18/08/2016 18:03

Slightly OT question but not really: can people smell tampons? Now they're obviously not artificially lilac scented or whatever but can people get a whiff of the menstrual blood?

kali110 · 21/08/2016 00:41

Yes it had to be a man because no women ever buy these scented products do they? That's why there's never a lot of them...,
