Aibu to ask what the hell it is and why the hell anyone would wear a perfume that smells like a sanitary pad? And why would anyone manufacture a perfume that smells like a sanitary pad? Confused

You would BVU to tell she stinks of sanpro and ask why the hell she wears such a grim perfume, but not unreasonable to ask what it is so that you can quietly avoid it.

It really might be the pads though. I can smell when women at work are wearing them from a mile off. I tried them a couple of times in a pinch and couldn't smell them as much on myself, but I suppose we seldom do smell ourselves accurately, and good old DSis told me I stank all of a sudden, so clearly I wasn't immune!

They really do smell foul. Foul enough that I'm not entirely convinced it isn't some kind of weird conspiracy. Menstrual cups and regularly changed cloth pads smell of pretty much nothing. Regularly changed tampons and organic/unscented disposable pads don't smell great but don't smell offensive either. But scented pads smell like death. I'm not a bloodhound, I've missed bacon cooking a few feet from me before but I can smell the bastards from across the room.

And it's all thanks to the delightful advertising inference that menstruation is sooooo stinky and disgusting that it must be masked with fucking Airwick at all times. It's so stupid and insulting.

FunkinEll · 17/08/2016 23:18

I know at least 2 people who smell like this. It's either a perfume or they wear scented panty liners the whole time.

Jellybean83 · 17/08/2016 23:20

Yes to the dry shampoo, I've just sprayed it all over my hair because I can't be assed washing it tomorrow! I never made the link before but yes I actually smell like a scented san pad right now.......... Oh well, small price to pay for half an hour longer in bed tomorrow morning!

bumsexatthebingo · 18/08/2016 00:13

I think they smell of furniture polish so maybe she's been cleaning before work. Agree it is a foul smell though and can't actually see any unscented Always pads in the shops now. And I don't know what 'm doing wrong with the Bodyform ones but they end up in a scrunched up ball in my knickers after about 10 minutes.

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 18/08/2016 00:42

I like the smell actually

Each to their own?

Vickyyyy · 18/08/2016 00:48

Surely this must be some dodgy kind of perfume, it cannot be an actual sanitary pad..someone else wouldn't be able to smell it when you just brush past unless they stuck their nose right in your crotch and took a huge sniff...and if that happened I doubt the person would be still alive and able to post on here about it Wink

Galdos · 18/08/2016 00:59

Bit confused. Human being smells like human being. Doh? OK, don't fart in lifts (confined space) but otherwise ...?

Or am I being unreasonable?

JustForThisTopic · 18/08/2016 01:14

Vickky. I can smell them if someone is near me (others on the thread have said the same) and I can smell the 'blood' often too. I hate both smells, but there's not much you can do about it.

Always are the most absorbent/best fit for me, but I'm going to have to see what else works because the 'fragrance' just seems to get stronger & stronger. Bleurgh.

Vickyyyy · 18/08/2016 01:26

In that case, I am glad my nose appears to be insensitive Blush

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 18/08/2016 01:38

I was once told Allure by Chanel has a womenly smell Confused

When I did wear it quite a few men complimented me on how nice I smelt Shock or maybe my other perfumes smelt awful

There is fanny smelling perfume

NeedsAsockamnesty · 18/08/2016 01:41

I can smell most of those pads from quite far away. It's the ones that you can't smell as much that are more evil because then your not expecting your nether regions to start burning.

I do nit know what the one with the really obvious scent calls the scent but there is an air freshner and a polish and a fabric softener as well as a few other products that smell very much like it

brambly · 18/08/2016 02:02

MumOnTheRun It's not the actual scented pads on their own and fresh out of the wrapper that smell like death (I mean I don't like the smell at all but it's not objectively gross). It's the smell of the scented pads when used. They can be smelt a mile away.

kali110 · 18/08/2016 02:15

It's only on mn that i ever hear about people being able to smell these pads Grin

brambly · 18/08/2016 02:31

I mean it's a lot less likely to come up in real life, isn't it? I'd feel a right meanie talking about so and so's whiffy sanpro to somebody else.

But I can assure you that it does come up, from time to time!

londonrach · 18/08/2016 02:48

When at school a horrible boy said in loud voice to my best friend..i can smell you got your period. It stuck in my mind how rude he is and tbh this situation reminds me of this. Sonethings you mention op...but id like to know which perfume she uses just in case!

londonrach · 18/08/2016 02:49

Somethings you dont mention ipad!!!!!

RubbishMantra · 18/08/2016 03:19

Might be the perfume she chooses to wear? Some perfumes smell lovely on some people, yet rank on others. I used to work with a woman who smelled of stale piss, and launching her wrist at me, informing me it was xxxxxx19. I nearly fainted. Smells lovely on other people though.

I think Victor and Rolf Flowerbomb smells lovely on anyone though. Like walking into an old school sweetshop, where you bought sweets from jars by the ounce.

perfumedlife · 18/08/2016 03:28

OP I wouldn't worry about it. YANBU but mumsnet is not what it was.

HateSummer · 18/08/2016 06:44

Thanks for the suggestions!

I'm thinking it might be dry shampoo then because her hair is lovely and always looking styled. I've never used dry shampoo so that's good.

My money's on Issey Miyake.

CoraPirbright · 18/08/2016 07:59

At least its got to be better than Annieonamapleleaf's "smelly work colleague". She smelt so awful that poor Annie threw up constantly and her managers were useless at dealing with the situation. I think the smelly woman is now suing the company. I wonder what is happening there......

YvaineStormhold · 18/08/2016 08:00

Jesus Christ there are some miserable humourless gets on MN these days.

expatinscotland · 18/08/2016 08:02

'It's only on mn that i ever hear about people being able to smell these pads grin'

Yep. And some people have no filter. They have to blurt out whatever's on their minds somewhere, can't just keep it to themselves. I'd assume it's this person's perfume, which is in zero way comparable to BO.

Footle · 18/08/2016 08:06

Well you're hardly likely to buy the perfume by mistake as you don't like it. So why would you need to ask ?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 18/08/2016 08:15

There are threads from time to time about perfumes you hate. I get headaches easily from strong perfumes, I often feel tempted to ask headache-inducing perfume wearers what it is just out of curiosity, but I've never dared in case they think I like it and start wearing even more of it.

I've never noticed a sanitary pad smell on anyone, but don't use them myself so wouldn't know what they're like. Can identify a Batiste dry shampoo user from quite some distance though.
