to be a bit bemused by the teacher this morning?

DD started school this morning. The teacher issued all of the parents with a copy of a wanky poem about realising these are our babies but now they are hers too (no they aren't), plus a tea bag and a biscuit.

Is this normal?! It was a bit schmaltzy twee for me.

Definitely a biscuit as defined by Nestlé.

I used to teach reception until I got sick of the diktats

Surely that's a typo, Lucie ? Grin

GrimmauldPlace · 18/08/2016 07:46

manic Kit Kats are in the chocolate aisle in my local sainsburys. The multipacks are with all the other multipacks of chocolate and the individual ones are with all the chocolate bars at the front.

If I'm having tea and biscuits I'd get the biscuit jar out. There's no Kit Kats in there. Maybe there should be.. Must ask DH what he classes it as.

None of my DS's teachers have ever given me a kit kat. Or any biscuit/chocolate bar. I feel a bit short changed.

40somethingwonderful · 18/08/2016 07:53

I think it's nice.

Am I missing the bit where it says that your babies are hers now too?

tabulahrasa · 18/08/2016 08:07

You are being a bit unreasonable...

I pretty much threw my DC at their P1 teacher and skipped off down the road gleefully.

I'd have bloody lived a kitkat though.

I mean, she took your DD off you and gave you a biscuit, that's like an ideal day for me Grin

Lucienandjean · 18/08/2016 09:16

Well, when you put it like that, ilostit....Grin

I always love the English obliviousness to anything that happens in Scotland.

I went to school in East Lancashire, all the schools went back at about the same time as Scotland due to 'Wakes weeks' at the start of July.

They changed it a few years ago to be similar to the rest of England - the kids all got a 9 week holiday - parents must have loved that.

MrsGsnow18 · 18/08/2016 09:47

Very cringe worthy imo.
Might not even be the teachers idea or doing either. If there is more than one class, they might all have to do it because someone stupid in charge came up with it Hmm
Waste of school money I think buying all those kit-kats I'd have rather had a twix

MrsFarm · 18/08/2016 09:51

I think its lovely! better than a hard nosed teacher who clearly doesn't give a shit about your child.

Oysterbabe · 18/08/2016 09:52

I definitely would have cried. DD is only 7 months but will be starting nursery is a few months and I feel sick even thinking about it.

There all kinds of people in the world, stone-hearted vipers, huns and everyone inbetween. It's ok to feel upset and worried about leaving your child or to not worry at all. I don't see the benefit in sneering at people who don't feel the way you do.

davos · 18/08/2016 09:55

Yabu for think a 2 finger kitkat is 'regular' size. Grin

Yabu about the rest of it. Surely it's the thought that counts. Some parents will have appreciated it.

Also I am English, I know Scotland schools are going back and also know that Scotland isn't abroad Grin

Floggingmolly · 18/08/2016 10:06

I'd have thought that was lovely... Confused

maddiemookins16mum · 18/08/2016 10:07

Was it a real kitkat or a fake version? I find real kitkats too sweet and prefer Asda versions.

Onenerfwarfrombreakdown · 18/08/2016 10:52

Just discussed this with DH, and we've decided ... standard kitkats are biscuits but the chunky are chocolate bars. It's all in the chocolate to wafer ratio

Clawdy · 18/08/2016 11:27

On DS's first day, we were shooed out of the classroom. When I picked him up at home time, he told me sadly that all the children who could write their name got a sweetie. He couldn't, so missed out. Yes, I would happily have settled for a poem and a biscuit and a teabag! And a teacher who was trying to be nice.

morningtoncrescent62 · 18/08/2016 13:13

When I took my (about to startvyr 10) for her first day at school, she was fine, went in quite happily. I on the other hand had to sit in the car for 10 minutes before I could drive to work, as I was blubbering too much.

What? Aren't they 14 at the start of Year 10? Hmm

Oysterbabe · 18/08/2016 13:45

BTW I think kitkats are chocolate bars not biscuits due to being fully covered with chocolate and individually wrapped.

CandODad · 18/08/2016 15:47

OP, would you have preferred the version my children's school sends out?

Dear Parents,

Please leave you child at the door with their teachers, this will enable to start the school routine as soon as possible.

Regards

Reception team.

CandODad · 18/08/2016 15:50

A biscuit starts hard and then goes soft as it goes stale. A cake starts off soft and goes hard when stale.

Emmy43 · 18/08/2016 17:28

The teacher is saying they will care for your child as well as teach them. The vast majority of teachers do an amazing job in the face of criticism from all angles at times.
I may have asked for cup of hot water for me tea though!

Daddymcdadface · 18/08/2016 17:35

Probably saw you in the playground this morning. My DS is on p3 now and tbh there is a lot of this moon hippie stuff goes on. Head down and save it for the big battles the whole 'Let's talk about god' has yet to come. Hope child is enjoying it

jenniferandjuliansmummy · 18/08/2016 17:38

Hahaha too right I hope it had chocolate

Shrew85 · 18/08/2016 17:43

As a Mum and teacher I know lots of teacher friends who have done this after each year there are lots of upset Mum's who could have done with a hug (not all but some). Every teacher I know have spent their own money and time during the summer putting these together. It's only a gesture and of course it's not for everyone, but better to include everyone than predict who's going to get upset and who isn't!xx

AbernathysFringe · 18/08/2016 17:44

If it had actually said that they are now her babies too, it would have been crumpled and dropped in the bin at home with a big FU. As it was, it was quite sweet.

Nedisabloodydonkey · 18/08/2016 17:45

She is being kind and reassuring. You obviously think she is being s twee twat but I think her efforts are lovely.
Stop being so sneering.
