Because of the mysterious popularity of these threads which no-one is actually responding to, here's the Seventh Thread.

The other ones have all filled up, but I'm not at all sure how.

(I have done this by proxy for VanillaSugar).

Come on people! Call to action here!

We have Being's* wedding to organise and lots of other good stuff.
AGL's holiday and exam results to get through.
Portia's love life and her DD's exam results.
Jess budding romance with Bambi Co-op Boy.
Better's quest to wear that blue bridesmaid's dress.
My addiction to posting memes which seems to be welcome on these threads.

LET'S GO...!!!!

Yes, I shouldn't be washing my dirty linen in public! Sloven that I am! Blush

RubyCav · 18/08/2016 20:42

And the huge cakes, made of polystyrene!

Shock made of polystyrene?!? That wouldn't taste very nice Envy

PortiaCastis · 18/08/2016 20:44

Its ok Ruby I was covering our backs just in case
I am envious of your sheet changing elves. Must get Aidy baby to employ some.

Bettercallsaul1 · 18/08/2016 20:46

Oh, I think I'd prefer to have that dress, Being, if it's all the same to you! Rather than a version made from blue, floral curtains. I just don't think it would hang the same...

RubyCav · 18/08/2016 20:47

Portia I'm seriously surprised by the white suit jackets and black trousers on the driver and groom. Livery jackets are usually dark colours (like maroon or navy) for a reason. Its the trousers that should be light.

RubyCav · 18/08/2016 20:48

OK I've definitely been too involved in the wedding carriage industry. The horses in that picture are wearing funeral harness!!! No joke.

Bettercallsaul1 · 18/08/2016 20:49

Also, if you're thinking of having Portia's Google dress, we'll have to drop the guest list at the barn by quite a lot - maybe an intimate party of thirty or so?

Bettercallsaul1 · 18/08/2016 20:52

Thirty guests and two large dresses - much better idea! And we would only need 60 scons or so.

Gowgirl · 18/08/2016 20:53

Boginni and co made my shoes, Google at your peril....

Gowgirl · 18/08/2016 20:54

I also had a shire horse and carybecause it was a thousand pound cheaper

Bettercallsaul1 · 18/08/2016 20:59

A thousand pounds cheaper?! How much was the alternative?

RubyCav · 18/08/2016 21:01

Wow. They are almost too bling to be photographed.

RubyCav · 18/08/2016 21:04

8 years ago the average horse drawn carriage for a wedding would cost £1,500-2,500 - depending on carriage and harness used. That was for traditional carriages. The specially made wedding fair tale style could be vastly more

RubyCav · 18/08/2016 21:05

*fairy

PortiaCastis · 18/08/2016 21:09

I've just been to bognini that's why I went missing. I have no idea about livery Ruby but I must blame Mr Google for the photo.
Now shall I ask Gran to ask Jim about a big barn? If he charges too much we can throw scons at him and knock his hat off

Bettercallsaul1 · 18/08/2016 21:12

Heavens - you really couldn't ever get divorced of you spend that much on your wedding day...

Bettercallsaul1 · 18/08/2016 21:14

Seems reasonable, Portia. Being's not here but I'm sure she'd give it her blessing.

RubyCav · 18/08/2016 21:15

Oh and better. I had a horse drawn carriage to prom it was still £300 for the bloke to do it at cost (no wages for himself, just insurance and the wage for the groom - who does the prep and comes on carriage in full livery).

  • That was with his basic carriage - easiest to clean (only took around 2hrs),
  • the basic wedding harness (still elaborate and 4hrs of cleaning),
  • an hour to bath and groom the horses to the high standard required so that they still look clean even once they get sweaty,
  • and the time to harness up, take me to prom and them get back home, unharness, etc.
Bettercallsaul1 · 18/08/2016 21:16

A bigger barn and two big dresses. I think we should ask the other guests to keep their outfits small.

Bettercallsaul1 · 18/08/2016 21:19

That is fascinating, Ruby!
People just don't think about the amount of preparation involved. But having heard that, things might be a bit tight on our budget of £14.87.

You should have seen some of the elaborate weddings I've been too in livery, as groom. The price of the horse and carriage must have been a tiny drop in the ocean compared to the rest of it.

RubyCav · 18/08/2016 21:27

Grin yeah a bit out of our budget.

People really don't realise the amount of work. For the more expensive coaches and harness you can easily need 4hrs for the carriage and 8hrs for harness, plus you need a second groom on the carriage. Its at least a days work the day before a wedding and a really early start on the day of the wedding. The wedding itself is the easy bit.

Bettercallsaul1 · 18/08/2016 21:27

That's what I mean! The total cost must be enormous if that's just one small part. I wonder if there's any correlation between the amount of money spent on a wedding and the length of the marriage. (Wouldn't be surprised if they're in inverse proportion. Grin)
