To ask for help with dropped iphone?

I feel like such a pillock! Dropped my iphone 5c, cracked the screen and it's now not working on one side so can't even unlock it as the numbers are on that side! First photos of DH with DN are on the phone and I forgot to backup! Kicking myself. I could get the screen fixed but for almost as much as the phone cost me in the first place since it was secondhand and who knows if there is other internal damage so it might be better to replace but I need to find a way to get the data off it first. Any ideas? Connecting it to the computer doesn't work because I can't unlock it or click the trust option.

Are you me??

I dropped my phone yesterday and smashed the screen

Luckily it still works ok and it's going to cost me £50 to get it repaired

I don't know how to get your photos though..

Didn't they already back up automatically? Mine is set up to do thatv

It makes me feel a bit better that I'm not the only one! The crack doesn't look that bad so I hoped it would just be a minor cosmetic issue but the touchscreen on that side of the phone won't work now. I thought I had set it up to back up automatically, vaguely remember ticking something and thought that was it but when I logged into icloud online it turns out I hadn't. It said I needed to click something in settings on my phone to enable it which I can't do now.

NeedAClever, the back up option can be switched on or off, I have mine switched off as I don't want every picture I take backed up to iCloud.

OP I think the Apple Store may be your best option, they fixed my utterly broken screen on my 6s for £85 and managed to save everything although bloody expensive, local repair guy said they would do it for £60 but couldn't guarantee that everything wouldn't be wiped.

Log onto your iCloud account. Hopefully they will be on there.

Mouikey · 17/08/2016 09:33

If you are near an Apple Store book a genius appointment they can often help although it may cost... Did it not automatically back up to the iCloud?

Damselindestress · 17/08/2016 09:35

I have logged onto the icloud. Nothing there. It says I needed to enable a setting on my phone, which I did not do and now cannot do.

Apple Store. They'll quote you a price and either fix or replace if they can't fix it. I wouldn't volunteer that you bought secondhand if they don't mention it.

Amazon is your friend.

Search for iPhone 5c screen repair kits.

They come with a new screen, instructions and all the tools you need. Costs round about £10.

It's a bit fiddly but perfectly doable to fix it yourself.

Smurfit · 17/08/2016 10:18

The touch screen gets replaced with the glass - I think they're a singular unit which is why the 4s(ish) on are more expensive to fix than the 3.

So try get it replaced, it's fairly reasonable (at least when I did it). If it doesn't work, there may be larger problems than the touch screen.

Good luck!

I second the DIY method.

I dropped my phone last month and smashed the screen, the touchscreen wouldn't work at all. Bought a new screen on EBay and DH fitted it in about half an hour, as good as new now.
