I was waiting for the price to go down, but there are only three left in the stores near me in my size.

It's a dress and it costs 179gbp.

I have soooo many clothes buying regrets. I think of all the things I could have bought when I had a fair amount of disposable income. Now I really can't afford to splash out since having DS, I am skint.

But if I had done, I would still have that Ted Baker coat (beautiful in cerise pink) and those Ray Ban sunglasses and all the other things that I can only ever dream of owning now.
Just buy it if you can afford it, or you will forever regret it.

TerrorAustralis · 17/08/2016 07:18

Don't think of it as a dress. Think of it as a skirt and a top. Does that make you feel better?

BTW I've bought a few Marcs items over the years and the quality is excellent.

Just buy it and enjoy it.

GodImbored · 17/08/2016 07:19

I would look horrendous in that dress but if you like it go for it!

Amelie10 · 17/08/2016 07:20

Sorry op after seeing the dress I don't think it's worth it. It looks a bit cheap to me in fact and that style of dress is now dated. You probably could get something much better and flattering for that price. Anyway how many uses could you actually get out of it.

SickInBedOnTwoChairs · 17/08/2016 07:20

Use the money to buy a sewing machine. That garment is so unconstructed, as a PP said she could knock it up in a weekend, I could too. You would have millions of choice over the fabric if you DIY too. Home sewing is addictive.

cherryplumbanana · 17/08/2016 07:27

ok, it's not exactly my taste for that price, but on the right person it could look very good.

  1. can you afford it?
  2. does it fit right?
  3. Do you have regular crushes on items of clothing, or is this a special one?
  4. would you wear it, or will you forget about it once it's in your cupboard?

If you can afford, you should buy. It's a fairly casual dress, so you can wear it enough to justify the price.

EndodSummerLooming · 17/08/2016 07:33

Bloody hell OP! DD has similar from Oliver Bonas for £50. Cheaper versions from H&M for £20. I thought this was going to be a well tailored, amazing fabric substantial piece.

I've bought dresses for £200ish that are fairly simple but that's a cheap and cheerful cotton frock.

cherryplumbanana · 17/08/2016 07:46

maybe start a 3rd thread asking people to source a similar dress, and buy the cheaper option!

CoolToned · 17/08/2016 07:51

Well this thread was just supposed to be about being unreasonable to myself for feeling guilty about wanting something expensive - I purposely didn't post the pic of the dress in the first place because I know people have different tastes. But then people kept asking what the dress is.

CoolToned · 17/08/2016 07:52

If it helps, in person, it does not look cheap or H&M--y. The fabric looks luxe in person. But yes, as I have said, I feel like it's too expensive for what it is.

I think it depends on whether you can afford to spend this much - and whether wearing it, having splashed out a lot, would make you feel happy or guilty. I'd only spend this much on a multi seasonal item that made me look amazing and I knew I could bring out year after year.

YvaineStormhold · 17/08/2016 07:56

Buy it. Wear it. Enjoy it.

As my dear mother often remarks, "There are no pockets in a shroud."

YvaineStormhold · 17/08/2016 07:56

You could wear it in the colder moths with opaque and a little cashmere cardy.

YvaineStormhold · 17/08/2016 07:57

Months. Not moths. Please, no moths.

SquidgyRedBall · 17/08/2016 07:59

Personally I think it's overpriced for what it is. I'm wearing something similar and it cost me £20.

But saying that, the heart wants what the heart wants. I'm sure I've spent money on things others will say is over priced.

It's a lovely dress, you can afford it and you only live once. Go for it

Badders123 · 17/08/2016 07:59

Do it

SaucyJack · 17/08/2016 08:01

It's your money.

But look at this first.

It's not what the fashion mags would call an investment piece.

InAWashingMachineMinute · 17/08/2016 08:07

Are you in Australia? I had an email a week or so ago with 20 and 30 per cent off depending on how much you spend.

If it goes out of stock then the decision is made for you. If you're unsure, buy it, decide and return if you don't love it as much as you think you are going to.

stillrocking · 17/08/2016 08:44

A friend of mine works out the price per wear when she's splurging! If you'll wear it a lot, it won't be that expensive if you think of it that way. She now ends up buying lovely expensive clothes to wear every day and hunting for bargains for weddings and occasions, as those clothes sit in the wardrobe most of the time. Think she's onto something.

OreosAreTasty · 17/08/2016 08:53

Well you can spend what you like.
I personally couldn't bring myself to considering it's almost all of DHs weekly pay (all we have coming in atm). Too much money for any dress (to me) I spend about £4-5 per item eBay cheapies and primark so obviously a huge jump. But I wouldn't begrudge others for spending how they see fit. Why are you still asking though?

Gowgirl · 17/08/2016 09:09

I brought something v similar in portobello road market last week, even down to the cut so I think it's expensive.....but I'm lusting after a Mckenzie child's tea kettle so feel free to ignore meSmile

situatedknowledge · 17/08/2016 09:15

Think of it not just as a dress but the extra wear you'd get from it as top and skirt. The top would look lovely with a pair of jeans.

RunnyRattata · 17/08/2016 09:21

Here's mine. I made from suit lining as an exercise in pattern matching. You could wear yours as an everyday dress rather than formal wear so at price per wear, it could end up being as cheap as chips. If you love it every time you put it on, go for it.
