Er.....no, you're wrong.

Iabu by getting so annoyed about this, particularly as it was on a fb group. (I know......) but the subject in question wasn't a matter of opinion, (as suggested) but a simple fact.

Its a bit of a cop out isn't it?

To begin I thought she just didn't realise (not mentioning what it's about......very specific) and as i have decades of experience and knowledge on the matter, thought I was being kind by enlightening her. Oh well. (I wasn't argumentative at all)

I used the same phrase yesterday, it's a polite way of saying you think the other person is talking bollocks.

Which they were.

I guess we are all going to be on the receiving end sometimes. Just let it go, it really doesn't matter if some internet fool disagrees.

Depends, research and facts don't always fit to everyone else's lifestyle choices. People may take a risk because they think that it is minimal enough to chance, because their family did it or because it suits them. For example eating certain cheese or rare steak whilst pregnant, obviously I don't know what you agreed to disagree on (or not as the case may be)

I often use this phrase with my brother when he starts droaning on about how wonderful Nigel Farage is and how brilliant Brexit is. I've debated and argued with him but he doesn't see my viewpoint and I don't see his, so it's pointless to keep having these conversations so now we just have to agree to disagree to avoid another fruitless argument debates.

One of the things I've found is that some people seem to want to be ignorant. Nothing you say or do will change their view.

It's not worth wasting your time, energy or emotion on them. And since they are not going to accept what you say, you'll just have to disagree then.

I volunteer with a reptile rescue, and will have "knowledgeable" dads telling their kids all about the chameleon I'm holding - and they kept chameleons for 15 years, so they know a lot. Except I'm holding a bearded dragon, not a chameleon.

I used it while speaking to a no voter during the referendum on gay marriage in Ireland. Twas not what I wanted to say but it was the most polite thing I could think of.

It depends whether it is an actual fact ie 2+2=4
or a theory/opinion.

I've used it in a "I know I'm right but I don't want to fall out with you" or "I know I'm right but I just can't be arsed" sort of way. But yes, it's infuriating if you have actual facts and knowledge on your side.

Nothing so irksome as Farage supporters or anti gay marriage voters.
But, using the chameleon and dragon example, it's like the dad was going to go on and give a talk to other enthusiasts, and you were trying to help him by saying 'but it's a bearded dragon' and he said 'thats just your opinion'

OK then, go ahead and look silly.

I see where your coming from BUT yabu because without this phrase How would we deal with the homeopatists?!? They obviously don't agree with reasoned scientific argument, evidence, peer review, or you know, facts. So I'm left with, either
A- "your an idiot. I'm sorry for you"
Or
B. "We'll have to agree to disagree

Even 'facts' can be disputed. There's very little that we actually know.

You've got to tell us what it was about though. I'm desperate to tell you that I disagree simply because you are so convinced that you are right Grin
