At the age of 36 I've discovered that

  1. Shirley McClaine and Warren Beatty were brother and sister

  2. Camels store fat and not water in their humps.

People I've told about my discoveries have universally responded with 'well yeah, everyone knows that'.

Any other factoids you were well behind the curve with?

Fox - that Marmite fact is wrong. It is still made from yeast from the brewing industry in a factory in Burton On Trent. Originally all the yeast came from breweries in Burton, but now they have declined in number the yeast comes from breweries all over the UK.

"These are currantsome before they are dried."

Confusingly, the dried fruit known as a currant (as you would find in a currant bun for instance) is a type of dried grape not a dried currant.

I thought F1 cars have normal gear sticks - was really laughed at last week by my DS

English stamps are the only ones that don't have to print the name of the country on them because stamps were invented in England.

Likewise, American websites end in .com rather than .uk or .fr because America invented the internet.

The length of your foot is usually the same as the distance from your wrist to your elbow.

I've just checked. It seems My feet really are bigger than they should be: I don't think my arms are short. Hmm

Disappearingchocolates · 17/08/2016 19:29

Up until last year I thought they speak Mexican in Mexico Blush... Not really trivia, just me being thick haha.

YourNewspaperIsShit · 17/08/2016 19:31

Yeah a currant isn't actually a current it's just a seedless smaller grape as I said before, sorry to be pedantic lol

QuackDuckQuack · 17/08/2016 19:40

The stamps thing isn't true.

Masketti · 17/08/2016 19:52

Bonnie Tim Berbers Lee invented the world wide web, not the internet.

The American military invented the internet (ARPANET) back in the 60s.

America uses .com as they invented the domain name structure back in 1983.

Sir Tim Berners Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1989 at CERN in Switzerland which runs over the top of the internet.

I didn't know that you had to put your hand out to stop the bus until I was 13. First time I ever went into town with my friend we watched as the bus went right by! Grin

Michael Phelps has a longer than average arm span than his height would suggest. My DS also has a longer than average arm span. It helps makes him a good goalie because he can reach further.

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 17/08/2016 21:39

John Lennon was pictured with his murderer on the day he was killed

It was in the 1980s when local anesthesia was used routinely in open hear surgery for babies. Before then it was believed that babies didn't feel pain

FoxSticks · 17/08/2016 21:52

Sorry Anne, I obviously didn't explain that right. I'm not disputing that it's still made from brewing yeast, just that there is less yeast available due to changes in drinking habits, and that has led to a change in consistency.

DesolateWaist · 17/08/2016 21:56

These are currantsome before they are dried. They are not grapes at all.

Yes currants, the dried fruit are grapes. What you have a picture of there see red and black currants.
The dried fruit is made from grapes.

DesolateWaist · 17/08/2016 21:59

On the subject of currants.
It is illegal to have a black current bush in America. That is why things that in the uk we have as black current flavour, like squash or black fruit sweets are grape flavour in the US.

Yes, it is illegal to own a black currants bush but you can have all the guns you like.

spankhurst · 17/08/2016 22:01

Only female mosquitoes bite (according to Roald Dahl anyway).

glitterwhip · 17/08/2016 22:07

That platypuses are actually venomous and that their young are called puggles ..I don't actually know if the puggles bit is true but I think it should be!
