At the age of 36 I've discovered that

  1. Shirley McClaine and Warren Beatty were brother and sister

  2. Camels store fat and not water in their humps.

People I've told about my discoveries have universally responded with 'well yeah, everyone knows that'.

Any other factoids you were well behind the curve with?

Peter Ostrum, who played Charlie in the original film Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, is now a large animal vet in rural New York. That was his first and only film he acted in.

I've just checked. It seems My feet really are bigger than they should be: I don't think my arms are short

I have checked. I don't think I have long arms but I do have dainty feet.

I thought that daylight savings only happened in Britain

My husband is 62 , has a degree in physics and a law degree, has travelled extensively and asked me yesterday if any other country adjusted their clocks

I also didn't realise that Arkansas and 'Arkinsaw' were the same place until not that long ago

Oh that one is understandable.

On the chicken/egg thing they do not lay soft shelled eggs- whoever posted that, your chickens need some chicken grit.

SpiceLine they've sort of melded a bit these days in everyone's heads in the way that all vacuum cleaners are Hoovers regardless of the make.

but yep separate although WWW won't work without the other. Internet is the pipes that carry the data, WWW is basically an application that runs over it (sort of, it's a lot more complicated than that really).

I'm not going to go into specifics because I'm still not entirely clear on it all. I've got a technical job and a science background...............

The needle on a compass points to magnetic north, if you wanted to walk north you could follow it. On proper hiking compass you turn the dial which has a line to the degrees from north you want to walk - you follow the line.

Or if you don't have a compass you can use a wristwatch and the sun.

SpiceLinerandHoneyLove · 18/08/2016 08:35

This thread is great. I always thought Arkansas was pronounced like 'Kansas'. It's due to the French influence in pronunciation apparently!

Sardines aren't real.

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 18/08/2016 09:14

The Toyota MR2 sports car. I always wondered why there was no MR1 or MR3.

Turns out that MR2 stands for Mid-engined Rearwheel drive 2 seater.

Eh? Sardines are real!

Elisheva · 18/08/2016 09:28

There isn't a specific fish called a sardine.

sashh · 18/08/2016 09:35

There isn't a specific fish called a sardine.

I thought it was Pilchards that are sardines.

I know scampie can be a number of different things.

DesolateWaist · 18/08/2016 09:52

No such thing as a panther either.

IwannaSnorlax · 18/08/2016 10:27

Desolate, Panther? What do you mean?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 18/08/2016 10:28

The Queen doesn't have a passport as all passports are issued in her name.

DesolateWaist · 18/08/2016 10:31

There is no animal called a panther.

What get called panthers tend to be black leopards or black Lynx. Panther has become a cover all term for and black big cat.

IwannaSnorlax · 18/08/2016 10:33

Where did the term panther come from in the first instance? I'm learning lots on this thread!!

DerelictMyBalls · 18/08/2016 10:36

Not necessarily trivia, but it occurred to me this morning how funny it is that Usain Bolt is a fast sprinter and his name is Bolt.

I accept that I am possibly the last person on Earth to have realised this.

DesolateWaist · 18/08/2016 10:37

A black panther is the melanistic color variant of any Panthera species. Black panthers in Asia and Africa are leopards (Panthera pardus) and black panthers in the Americas are black jaguars (Panthera onca).

IwannaSnorlax · 18/08/2016 10:38
