My MIL will be here in a hour

To help me clean the house as she does every week.

It's a shithole though (mainly toys and breakfast stuff) and I need to clear up a bit before she gets here for my own sanity.

So why am I still on the sofa, un showered and in pjs, posting on mn and FB?

Somebody kick me and give me a bit of motivation. Where should I start?

She sounds great and I'm sure she won't mind if it's a tip. Surely that's why she's coming round.

When I can't get motivated to do anything, I set the oven buzzer on 10 or 15 minutes and tell myself I will just do as much as I can get done in that time. Makes quite a big difference...

I'm waiting for my mum to turn up and do the same - house is not too bad and we are going to hang some curtains but still sat here in pjs watching the olympics.

DS is watching Ben & Holly and DD is fighting her morning nap - need to go and have a shower.... Maybe a cup of tea first

Have a coffee, then a shower and take it from there.
I'm sure your MIL is there to help not judge.
Housework always seems like a mammoth task but you'll feel better once it's done.

wow , nice MIL. My MIL is the complete opposite, I end up cleaning up after her.

She sounds lovely. I don't think she would mind at all that it's a mess. Have a shower as that'll make you feel a lot better.

Well she's here now but it's all changed as Dh has been taken to hospital with heart palpitations. My parents are taking me up there.

At least I'll come back to a clean house!

He's fine! It was the other Dh first name surname at his firm. I am beyond furious.
