Hammer drill (?) at 8am.

They are building an extension a few doors down. For the last week it's been really noisy but yesterday they started doing something that involves a rhythmic loud banging. One of the neighbours said its a hammer drill.

They've started this morning at 8am on the dot. It's making my house shake, I'm literally sitting on the sofa bouncing.

I'm in a message group with some of the neighbours (small estate) and it's the same for them.

I know the work needs to be done but are they really allowed to start this early? And how much longer is this likely to go on for?

I don't know the neighbours in the house being worked on to ask.

Wah! I never thought I'd be THAT neighbour but it's really doing my head in.

OP you don't live in my street do you? This all sounds very familiar!

I think I am more in a grump about it than usual because I want to enjoy the sunshine and lounge in the garden but all I can hear is a bloody drill! Confused

Check your local council for their noise policy. There is a time that noisy machinery can be used from in your area. I bet it's 8am. Some areas it can be 7.30 I believe!

You need to check out what it says about 'noise pollution' on your LA website OP. In mine, building work is allowed between 8am till 6pm weekdays and 9 till 13.30 pm on Saturdays. Nothing is permitted on Sundays. They are very hot on this where I am, in West London. In fact I've called them out on a Saturday afternoon and they've been to the offending building site within the hour.

If they are starting too early, then you need to call the council, as you can bet no one else will! In my surrounding area I often see and hear noisy building work going on on Sunday afternoon. No one says a peep....

In the UK noise is considered acceptable between 7 am and 11 pm

Go out for the day?

Contractors always want to get an early start, I refuse entry before 8am as otherwise I am falling over them to get LO's ready for Nursery etc with them here.

Neighbours dog being put in the garden to bark at 0715 pisses me off more tbh.

8 am is not unreasonable, you're just being oversensitive

YABU - Ours started at 8am and finished at 4pm - think that's entirely normal for builders.
